The Time Has Come to Fire Rhoads

As someone else pointed out, it really is likely up to the big program donors as to what happens next. As wrong as that is, it's the truth these days.

If they want Rhoads to stay, then he'll likely stay. JP can't really go against their wishes and survive himself, can he?

If Rhoads stays that stadium is going to be hilarious next year. It would be like me wearing a Magnum condom.

funny.

i want change just as much as the next guy but how can I give up tickets while still supporting the football team? that's the dilemma.

I agree Rhoads Must GO, 4 the sake of the program and esp the great cyclone fans who show up to see another loss in another dreadful dismal football season...

I'll be real Blunt..........I thought Coach Paul Rhoads should have been fired after losing to basketball only school KU last season..........

The time definitely has come. Not many coaches could have that bad of a record and keep their job as long as he has. Just another offseason and media sessions of blowing smoke up people *****.

Talent clearly isn't the issue if you have watched the games. It's the winning "culture" and we don't have it. That's coaching.

I feel for Cole Netten because he has to be hurting, but Rhoads called him the "best kicker in the nation" and he has missed what, 3-4 kicks in 3 games?

I'll give him credit because it's clear that we have upgraded in talent namely on the defensive side, but man you wouldn't know it by our 1-2 record against a less than stellar schedule so far.

I do think there are 2-4 wins still left on the schedule, but if last year tells us anything it's very realistic to go 1-11. Everyone had Kansas penciled in last year and they kicked the **** out of us.

I like Rhoads and I want so badly for him to do well, but it's just not happening.

Attendance is the key, not ticket sales. When ticket sales are made, the coaching decision has already been made. When people aren't showing up late in a season, that's an indicator that they won't buy next spring. Ticket sales themselves have never taken a coach down. People not showing up have.

Am I a horrible person for wanting to lose vs. Kansas in 2 weeks?
I could never root for kids to lose even if their coach was a murderer. The kids put in the hard work and a reward seems fair.

Frankly, you really have to stink at your job to fail to capitalize on that Oklahoma State win. Nobody bottoms out after that.

That's beyond the realignment sagas, injuries, or anything else. The man had gold right there in his hand, then went 12-31, with most of those wins coming in 2012, and maybe 1 more coming this year. It's one of the greatest coaching failures I've ever seen.

And not recruiting replacement linebackers for Knott, AJ, and Jeremiah George. Iowa suffered through last year with the same situation losing three LB's to the NFL two years ago.....

You scour the high school ranks for quality LB's when Knott/AJ/George are JUNIORS. They would of been our best recruiters, while they're still in the ISU program

The same type of football has been played at ISU no matter the Coach. There is a systemic problem with poor discipline and the inability to capitalize on any opportunity tot claw out of the basement. Any highs are very short.

The simple fact of the matter is that we have inferior talent compared to our competition. We live on the razor's edge. Any mistakes cost us. Travis Hines wrote there was not a discernable difference in talent between Toledo and ISU. That's a problem.

Firing Coach Rhoads does not solve the talent gap. The decision to go to the read option offense at a school that does not Recruit the type of athlete that can run it at QB is going to haunt his entire career here. We still run the zone read when everyone knows that the QB is not going to run. Get in the I formation and get a blocker there for the RB. Our offense sets up RB's for failure.

The decision to have smaller more athletic OLine is so ridiculous that it boggles the mind it was made. We finally now have a line with some size. Rhoads first couple did because those were Chizik's guys.

If we are going to improve the team with Coaching you have to find a HC that has an entire Coaching Staff and system in place to bring along. Like Jerry Kill. Sure Minnesota is not Ohio State, but they are much improved and steadily improving.

CPR is a first time HC, and I believe he can be successful. If he had chosen a different route with offense we could be in a much different place. The best case scenario is that the players buy in and get it going. They get some momentum and have a great year next year considering the talent we will have at DLine and on Offense.

If they don't then you do need to find a Head Coach that has a staff and system in place. But CPR turning this around this year is our best option and what we should be hoping for. The players need to decide that enough is enough and that they are going to win games and hold each other accountable. Coaches can only do so much.

Apparently not, since Chiz left some NFL talent here for Rhoads to win with.
The current guy is pretty well bottoming out the program by showing this is the program he can build.
Honestly, there's still potential NFL talent on this team. Campos, Burton, Tucker, Harris, Lazard, Montgomery, Cotton-Moya..I don't think talent is the ENTIRE problem. It's more so discipline and mental state. Rhoads has lost whatever mental edge his teams had in 09-12.

Re: Perfectly stated, imho.

This article is on point.... I have backed CPR over the last few years, even when many other Cyclone fans have wanted him out... He has passion for the team and has had some great wins, but the loses have gotten to the point that I start to forget about the upset wins that inspired the cyclone fan-base.

He has defended his players and team, especially times when the team got the short end of the stick (i.e. Texas game) and has shown true passion that all fans want to see out of a coach, but in the end I think we would trade some passion for some wins...

CPR is a great guy and I think that everyone wants him to succeed more than anything, but it just is not working..... I really like CPR and it pains me to have to say this, but it is time for a change in the football coaching ranks... I know ISU is not an easy place to coach and not sure who would want to come here, but it is time to move on and see if we can find a combination of passion for the program and a coach that can produce a quality team that can win more ballgames than it loses...

Thank you, thank you, thank you CPR for your efforts and time at ISU but it is time that both parties go a new direction.....

Go Clones!

You know, it is easy for you to sit at your computer and tell everyone what should be done and who should be fired, but you are not the coach and you were not hired as the coach. Armchair quarterbacks and coaches don't remedy a problem. You got to believe the coaches are doing everything they can to right the ship. Players need to do their part as well. Let's not forget that they have a part in this as well, over 100 yards in penalties kill any chances of winning a game. Talent is much improved over last year. Offense and defense played well last Saturday. Take away the penalties and we win the game.

Penalties are a part of the game and those errors are part of the coaching regime not doing everything they can to right the ship. Toledo's stadium was laughably quiet.....imagine how this is going to wind up when they're in an actually intimidating stadium.

I don't get how anyone wants Roads back after going 6-21 in the last 3 years.

I completely agree. I invested into the new End Zone club ($1000 donation plus $750 for each of 2 tickets, now, I don't even feel like going, i'm embarrassed to say that, but it's true. I completely support the players, but I almost feel I need to stay away to make a statement for change. This school deserves a better product on the field.
