The Time Has Come to Fire Rhoads

Frankly, you really have to stink at your job to fail to capitalize on that Oklahoma State win. Nobody bottoms out after that.
He promoted Messingham. That is what killed the momentum and ultimately will cost him is job at Iowa State.

The same type of football has been played at ISU no matter the Coach. There is a systemic problem with poor discipline and the inability to capitalize on any opportunity tot claw out of the basement. Any highs are very short.

The simple fact of the matter is that we have inferior talent compared to our competition. We live on the razor's edge. Any mistakes cost us. Travis Hines wrote there was not a discernable difference in talent between Toledo and ISU. That's a problem.

Firing Coach Rhoads does not solve the talent gap. The decision to go to the read option offense at a school that does not Recruit the type of athlete that can run it at QB is going to haunt his entire career here. We still run the zone read when everyone knows that the QB is not going to run. Get in the I formation and get a blocker there for the RB. Our offense sets up RB's for failure.

The decision to have smaller more athletic OLine is so ridiculous that it boggles the mind it was made. We finally now have a line with some size. Rhoads first couple did because those were Chizik's guys.

If we are going to improve the team with Coaching you have to find a HC that has an entire Coaching Staff and system in place to bring along. Like Jerry Kill. Sure Minnesota is not Ohio State, but they are much improved and steadily improving.

CPR is a first time HC, and I believe he can be successful. If he had chosen a different route with offense we could be in a much different place. The best case scenario is that the players buy in and get it going. They get some momentum and have a great year next year considering the talent we will have at DLine and on Offense.

If they don't then you do need to find a Head Coach that has a staff and system in place. But CPR turning this around this year is our best option and what we should be hoping for. The players need to decide that enough is enough and that they are going to win games and hold each other accountable. Coaches can only do so much.

I gotta tell ya man, all the evidence is pointing in the opposite direction. Numbers, much like ball, don't lie.

I don't want to put words in his mouth because I don't really think this is what he meant, but just because he wasn't successful in this situation doesn't mean he can't be in another situation. I truly believe that our current team is actually pretty good. I just think that they have been fatally harmed from the past.

Whether it is at ISU or another school I think Paul can be successful. Had we gone a different direction after Herman left on Offense instead of Messingham, he may be Coaching at a bigger program already. He dug himself a hole, and we will see if he can get out of it.
