The maximum exit fee. The Exit Fee is not an issue according to you. Mizzou and aTm want to leave. Just pay the Exit Fee and then you can go.

I think TAMU and MU are already gone. At this point, either both schools and the league work out a negotiated settlement on the fees, or they go to court (and I don't think that's ever happened before.)

It's not like they have to agree on exit fees before either school can move to the SEC. And since the Big 12 has publicly stated that WVU WILL be in the conference starting next year, that should absolve MU from any legal liability for maintaining the TV contract w/o 10 teams.

So I'll stand pat and maintain that no, exit fees are not an issue. This is from the news service covering the MO statehouse, from last week:

I hope he still posts here when his team plays in the SEC so I can laugh at them failing. He seems like a hawk troll in disguise.

That Link was about worthless. Some guy who "thinks" the exit fee will be what Colorado and Nebraska paid.

I will guarantee you it will be much higher. Big 12 has publicly stated that WVU will be in the Big 12 next year, but that really means nothing. It all depends on the lawsuit that WVU has with the Big East. What the Big 12 says means nothing.

And if WVU is held to staying in the Big East for 27 months you can bet that Mizzou will be paying through the nose as that nullifies the TV contracts.

Not JUST according to me...

Here's Tim Hickman, MU's associate AD for operations, quoted in today's paper regarding the construction of new luxury boxes at Faurot Field:
Hickman said that the impending cost of Big 12 exit fees won’t hinder the project.

“It will be totally separate funding,†he said. “We will not use any university dollars, any tuition dollars for exit fees. We will fund that out of reserves that we’ll pay back over time. … We’ve actually had some donors say, ‘Hey, we’ll help you out if you need us to,’ but we would really prefer not to do that with exit fees. We think we can find other opportunities to do that and focus those potential gifts on improving our facilities and programs.â€

So, the MO state legislators don't think exit fees are an issue. The MU athletic dept. doesn't think they're an issue. The TAMU president doesn't think they're an issue.

Obviously, TAMU and MU are going to want to negotiate a better deal...any money you save on exit fees can be used for stadium improvement, facilities, or any other need. But show me anyone who thinks they'll derail joining the SEC?

As for the TV contract, we'll just have to see. I really don't believe the SEC would offer MU without some outside assurance that there would be no legal issues. Plus, the Big 12 would have a hard time proving a case against Missouri for wrecking the TV deal when the league has already announced a replacement for 2012 that fulfills the contract.

No way this goes to court. It's just not worth the risk and the hassle to the league to drag this out for another $750K in fees for each remaining school.

Mizzoulander.....can you just leave already? As an ISU fan, I really enjoyed having MU in the B12, but now they aren't and I will actively cheer against MU for the rest of my life. If the Hawks play MU, I'm still cheering for MU to lose.

That should be a short court hearing. "The bylaws say you pay what? And you were bound by those bylaws because you agreed to them 15 years ago?"

Maybe...although NU agreed to the same bylaws, and they ended up paying about half. Harvey Perlman thought the bylaws were unenforceable, and felt his school should pay nothing.

WVU has argued that since the Big East lost several of its top programs, it shouldn't be held to agreements with a conference that is substantially different than the one it signed with. I have no idea if a similar argument could work for Missouri.

I'm still thinking settlement.

I'm fine with a negotiated exit fee.

Anything to remove the instability of Missouri and A&M ASAP.

Besides, we are upgrading on the football field with TCU and WVU.
