I completely disagree. Maybe a network says we'll pay you more money if these two teams play in separate divisions but no network is going to tell a conference how it's going to to be set up. Like others have said, there is a good chance competitive balance will shift over time as it has in the past. Would the networks require divisions to change again? I think not.

While it is possible that competitive balance may shift over time, what does history suggest? I would say history suggests that OU and UT are the dominate teams remaining in the B12. They both have had down years. ISU has beaten UT once and OU 3 times, in their history, and for the majority of schools in the B12 that same scenario is true. They understand that it will be more benefical to the conference, if it has 12 members, that they be in separate divisions. Not saying it won't happen but I definetly think it is something the leadership of the B12 has been discussing.

C'mon now, don't sell ISU short, we've beaten OU 5 times in history. See, not nearly as bad as you thought.

Crap, that means we need to send someone back in time to stop CloneFan4 from starting this thread.

But then the thread will also send a killing machine (I assume in the likeness of Gary Pinkel) back through time to kill that someone to ensure that the thread will always be started.

Somewhere in there, someone also needs to get knocked up.

Big East CEOs refused to increase exit fees - CBSSports.com

In the Oct. 2 meeting, the league’s presidents and chancellors also were scheduled to continue dialogue about “potential legal strategies in the wake of the departures of Pittsburgh and Syracuse.”

The refusal of the presidents and chancellors to increase the exit fee is another challenge to the league trying to survive the departure of TCU, Pittsburgh and Syracuse and with the possibility of other members leaving to other conferences.

Big East news from the day for those who care...the reason I pay attention is because the Big East's future would seem to have a direct impact on the desire of Louisville/West Virginia to leave for the Big 12.

1. Sounds like the only thing that has been decided is Central Florida and Temple are now in...possibly very soon

Big East courts Boise State, Temple - NYPOST.com

2. Army is definitely out, and some say that Air Force/Navy are more likely than not to decline.

Navy, Army and Air Force appear unlikely to all join Big East Conference - The Washington Post

3. Boise is now being favored to give the Big East somewhat of a chance to keep BCS status

Big East courts Boise State, Temple - NYPOST.com

4. SMU and Houston are also in the mix with East Carolina, with Villanova remaining a distant outsider to add football.

5. Boston Globe thinks West Virginia and Louisville are locks to the Big 12 if Mizzou bolts, and both could end if in the Big 12 even if Mizzou stays.

6. In the article above, it says the basketball schools don't want to add anybody, and they're the reason Central Florida and Temple haven't been added yet. When will the basketball only schools realize that as good as the Big East has been with basketball that football is the only one driving this bus?

With Syracuse and Pitt gone, the BB only schools should break off on their own and say the hell with the FB schools. The following would attract a lot of eyeballs on ESPN and syndicated networks and still create a good tournament atmosphere at MSG:

Georgetown
DePaul
Marquette
St Johns
Villanova
Seton Hall
Notre Dame (assuming they want to stay)
Providence

Then add Xavier and Dayton for a terrific 10 team private school conference.

Some great quotes from B12 coaches and AD's

Big 12 giving Mizzou time to make decision

---

The University of Missouri Board of Curators is expected to decide sometime within a couple of weeks whether the school's athletic program should remain in the Big 12 Conference or accept an invitation to join the Southeastern Conference.

Several sources claim that Louisville would be invited to join the Big 12 almost immediately if Missouri leaves – and perhaps even if the Tigers choose to stay.

---

"Who knows what Missouri's going to do?" added an athletic director from the Big East, whose members also are wondering what might be coming down the road after losing longtime members Pitt and Syracuse to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

"And as a matter of fact, maybe Missouri's decision won't have any kind of real shock wave effect at all. Maybe the Big 12 will add two more teams -- even if Missouri stays.

"That's how crazy the whole situation has become. Nobody really knows what's going on – and if anyone did, they'd probably lie about it, anyway."

----

"If Missouri is going to change horses (conferences), it won't be for 2012, anyway," Neinas said.

So, was the 79-year-old Neinas just winging it with these statements, or have a majority of Big 12 schools empowered him to let Missouri keep them hanging?

"I have no idea if Chuck is in total control of all this, or he has no clue what's happening," offered one Big 12 coach. "What can we believe?"

------

"It's crazy," suggested a Big 12 athletic director. "Missouri stands to lose in just about every way by going to the SEC.

"Culturally, it's a Midwestern school. Same with geography. And in the major sports, Missouri would be committing suicide with its recruiting. They've worked hard to get a productive pipeline with kids in Texas, which would basically disappear if they leave the Big 12.

"How do you go get a player from Texas -- stealing him away from Texas, Oklahoma and the other schools down there – if you're selling the kid on games in Florida and Mississippi?"

-----

One Big 12 administrator insisted that the conference, which now has 10 members with the addition of TCU, is a cinch to expand back to 12.

"That's the right number," he said. "It gives you two divisions, so you have the revenue back from a football playoff game – plus it adds some depth, in case a school decides to leave later on.

"I think Louisville would be an automatic choice. It's an excellent school academically with a healthy athletic budget ($74 million annually) that would be among the largest in the Big 12 -- and the Louisville TV market is the 16th-largest in the country, which is a big plus for us.

"Where's the downside to Louisville? It has the prestige and athletic success in all sports to match Missouri or (Texas) A&M.

"It's not like Louisville would say no, either. You think they want to stay in a collapsing Big East?"

---------

"One way or another, though, the Big 12 has regrouped and there's a strong belief among all the remaining schools that expansion is coming.

"But let's have an answer, so that everyone can get back to business as usual – finding the right schools to add, working on a really good TV deal when that time arrives, and moving from strength to strength.

"If Missouri truly feels it belongs elsewhere, fine. This isn't the same thing as losing Nebraska. We'll continue as one of the strongest conferences in college sports.

"The Big 12 will remain a powerful, successful entity for a long, long time."

Has A&M left yet? Heard the bus stop is getting a little raunchy with TAMmy and her jars hanging out. She has been there awhile.

Big East and Navy courtship is hitting that circular reasoning argument we all know too well...

Big East, Navy reportedly hitting snags over exit fees | CollegeFootballTalk

The Newark Star-Ledger reports that Navy, while interested in joining the Big East, won’t do so until the conference has settled on new exit fees, which are currently set at $5 million.
“Navy has been consistent since Day One, and this is in no way a slight to whoever they are thinking about. The question remains about the anchor six (schools) that need to get together and determine if they’re going to remain focused in being the backbone of what that conference needs to be,â€￾ said Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk.
The problem is that the Big East wants Navy to join now, or in the immediate future, no questions asked. As one would imagine, that would be hard for Navy to do seeing as there, in fact, many questions about whether there will even be a Big East in a year or two.
At least four members — Louisville, Rutgers, UConn and West Virginia — are trying to buy as much time as possible in the event that membership assurance from another conference is given.

Lol I stopped reading this thread a long time ago and I come back on to find these two gems. Have you ever considered that this thread has consumed me and I have become one with it?

Perhaps you yourself were created by the thread to provide the illusion that it wasn't self generated. Did the rumor of aTm leaving the big 12 come first, or did the thread??? :wideeyed:
