I think they're gone, but I think that A) we're going to be just fine (which is the only reason I've cared) and B) they'll get their head kicked in and wish they'd never left.

I don't know, I still keep thinking the Texas Legislature isn't going to be overly pleased about the idea, ESPN/FOX are going to be angry as hell and Rick Perry isn't going to like the idea of possibly losing his own state (****** off Texas/Tech/BU fans) if he runs for president.

Maybe I'm wrong and common sense is just going to get tossed out the window. If that happens I guess I assume the B12 will go on with 9 members and attempt to jump up to a respectable number come 2015. Giving ISU the ability to add another cupcake to their schedule.

I'm still leaning towards the not happening though, business wise it just seems like an awful move.

I like how this item is also listed under the portion of discussing current or upcoming legal matters with their attorneys. Shows that they will likely discuss the upcoming and current contracts and this definitely puts a nail in coffin that aTm is on their way out...

Rick Perry doesnt have to worry about his own state. In the primary if it comes to Romney v Perry, gotta favor Perry in TX. In the general election, perry v obama wont be close in TX.

No. That term would be acceptable at this time. Whenever speculation or rumors of the Big XII's demise come to light.... people start going Aggie fan and getting all irrational.

An example was the guy the other day that suggested that ISU go independent if the Big XII implodes. There wasn't 1 second or rational thinking that went into that post.

Apparently the TAMU regents are be having a telephonic meeting monday to talk conference affiliation. Guessing this means done deal.

they are getting their ducks in a row before they have to testify to the legislature. The topic of the conversation could be, is this worth the political risk?

I think we hold at 9 and try to court a Notre Dame or BYU in a couple years.

It should be noted that with A&M removed, and Texas and OU on board, the Big 12's instability will be down a lot.

A&M has really been the only school threatening to go. If the others stay, it isn't unstable.

I like ISU's chances in a nine team conference minus aTm a lot better than playing in a ten game conference that includes the aggies.


I really like the balanced conference schedule better than the 5/4 format....


With the univ of texas and the oklahoma sooners on board I think that the new look big 12 and of course Iowa State will be just fine....just my opinion boys and girls

I think they'll grab another team but it may not be right away. Reports earlier were SEC was prepared to have one season as 13 teams.

This is pretty much what I say too. Although ND is a huge long shot BYU would be nice too. Would love ND to join after how hard the Big 10 has tried over the years.

the issue isn't election, it's funding, volunteers, and supporters. You think a Baylor alum POed at you is going to give you money? he needs every dollar, and being in the middle of controversy is not good no matter how you slice it. And, say the Big 12 folds, you think his campaign will get off to a bang with the first Caucasus in Iowa?

I think the legislature will look very carefully at this situation especially with the seemingly lack of ability of A&M to know how to spend their athletic money. I can't see them being to happy about a University who I believe had to take out a loan from the big 12 to pay down debt now trying to move to a different conference and have to pay a hefty fee for leaving and they have already had to make huge cuts. Plus the fact they could see it hurting the other institutions.

I wish the Big 12 would put on their big boy pants and start getting aggressive. They sat back and let NU/CU leave and look to be doing the same with aTm.
I think we should be actively expanding to strengthen the conference. If not we can kiss it all goodbye.
I believe it is in UTs best interest to keep the Big12 around. Them making concessions and begging their way into the Pac16 just doesn't add up.
If the SEC takes aTm and another team from the ACC, the ACC would most likely go after a Big East school. The Big12 should then aggressively expand eastward and get back to 12 as soon as possible.

This is probably as good of a guess as there is - if a 9 school conf is stable for a couple of years (really stable - no whining Mizzou!) then the conf looks much more attractive to BYU or ND (still think ND is a pipedream).

It can sustain for a year or two. Its relevant as long as UT and OU are in the conference.

That is likely the only hope of ND joining a conference, something will have to happen to the Big East to form them to look for another home for their other sports. And in this day I don't believe you'll find a top tier conference that will take ND for everything but football like their current setup is.
