The Fuskers appear to have gotten their franchise QB

The problem is that fan base thinks they can, and more importantly, deserve the 90’s level of success.

Which no matter how good their NIL is won’t be possible. They had the perfect storm to pull that off and most of the advantages they used have disappeared.
I think their ceiling is Penn State under Franklin. 10-2 at best, probably get into expanded playoff once in a while.

Love the Purdy family but Chubba is not a Power 5 QB

He’s a good QB, maybe not top team in Power 5 started good, but I’ve always thought he benefitted exponentially in his recruitment from Brock’s rapid rise and success his first two years at Iowa State (Chubba’s jr & sr years in high school). He had good stats but idk if he gets the FSU offer without the name association. And that whole situation with decommitting from Louisville to FSU on signing day seemed like an odd choice.

Exceptional get for Nebby, I think Rhule is going to get it turned around with his type of players there.

Turned around yes, but to what ceiling? Not high enough for the fanbase. Remember they fired Frank Solich and Bo Pelini because they weren't as accomplished as Tom Osborne. They're even more delusional than Texas. I hope they're okay with 8-4 and 9-3 type seasons.

I didn’t grow up near Nebraska, nor have I ever lived near Omaha/Lincoln. Is this whimsical/fanastyland stuff pretty standard for them?
I know I've shared this before, but after Frost won his bowl game with UCF, one of the Lincoln TV Stations immediately went live after the game expecting an announcement of his hiring at Nebraska. They ran old highlights, an interview with his parents, Tom Osborne, former players and so on. They did this for nearly a full hour waiting for the announcement, repeating these segments over and over. The announcement didn't happen and the reporters awkwardly went back to regular programming.

On top of that, there's the "day by day" two-part documentary that is all about the glory days of the 1990s. You'll also still see TO regularly on political ads during election seasons (and he has not aged gracefully, IMO). I've seen a handful of people still wearing their National Championship gear...yeah, pretty standard.

EDIT: I almost forgot, look up "Frosty the Coachman" on YouTube. You won't be disappointed!

Rhule will make Nebraska a very good football team but they will never be elite like the past. Part of that is because they were at such a high level it's impossible to repeat that in any conference except the SEC. Even in the SEC there's only 2 teams capable of being what Nebraska was. There is a fan base that expects that, but that base is actually very small. Most of their fan base just want to start winning again and the support for a team that hasn't been to a bowl in a decade is actually pretty amazing. I think Nebraska is in a pretty decent spot. I don't think the Big 10 is invincible even with the top of the PAC.

I actually think their ceiling is lower honestly. They can make a College Football Playoff every now and then, but any team could. A lot of the advantages they experienced in the 80s and 90s are gone.

They don’t have a significant financial edge over other blue bloods. They aren’t in a luxurious location. They aren’t in a hot bed of talent. They aren’t in a growing state. Their mega donors are aging. They don’t have historical success anymore (they haven’t been in a bowl game in 7 years, they haven’t played in a nationally meaningful game in over a decade). Kids committing nowadays were 8 years old or younger since Nebraska played for a conference championship and weren’t even born yet when they were competing for national titles. Their conference is getting harder with the 4 PAC additions.

Even this kid they just got is a legacy commit who’s uncle is on the coaching staff. You think Nebraska gets a sniff from this kid if family isn’t a factor? It’s similar to JJ Kohl committing to us, but on a bigger scale. And with the transfer portal what it is, it’s 50/50 he even finished his career in Lincoln.

The last 7 years aren’t just a lull in the cycle. Sure blue bloods go in slumps. But not for a better part of a decade. More like for 4-5 years tops. This is the new reality for Nebraska. Fans and media just haven’t caught up yet.

They ignored their starting RB dragging his girlfriend down 3 flights of steps. If you win, they don’t care about no drama.
Harder to get away with keeping a guy on the team that does that stuff in the social media era.

Raiola's Dad was the center of controversy a few times during his NFL career. I assume the family will cause some drama if things do not go well. Sounds like the kid is very talented. He will have a lot of pressure to be good right away.

It is NOTHING like it was in the 1990s and early 2000s. You have an entire generation that only knows mediocre Nebraska now.
Not to say their isn't still a lot of crazy......
