The Fran fade

It’s just the optics of it. Two teams with the same record but one team is .500 in the 3rd best conference and one team is 5-9 in the best conference. In the end both teams will make the tournament but the one with the “bad” optics will probably be higher seeded
I realize that’s an awfully long sentence, but how can you get so many numbers wrong in one sentence ?

One of the more common misunderstandings is that Michigan State always outperforms their seed in the NCAA tournament. In recent history (last 5 tournaments), they’ve only outperformed their seed once. And that’s as a 2 seed making the F4. During that same time, they’ve lost in the 1st round as a 2 seed and in the 2nd round as a 3 seed.

We need to stop that dated narrative of them.
Yeah this was a thing like 7-10 years ago. They have had average teams the last few seasons and have pissed their pants in the tournament, including giving up a huge lead vs UCLA in the play in round last year

You are not wrong... If the Hoks and ISU make the NCAA tournament, neither is likely to make any kind of a run.
Iowa State should be happy to be there this year. Anything positive that happens once there is gravy.

Iowa has struck lightning twice in a row with a generational type of talent and is going to squeak in to the tournament. But let's all bask in the greatness that is Frans best coaching job ever to get this miserable roster that he himself assembled, into the big dance.

Fade doesn't seem likely. Iowa has taken care of business when it should this month, with the exception of the home Michigan loss. That was negated when they beat Ohio state on the road 2 days later. Tonight's game would've ended in a loss if they were truly fading. Instead they only won by 26.

Only way fade holds true this year is if they lose 3 out of 4, one of those 3 obviously to lowly Nebraska or Northwestern

Murray will also be gone after this season. Who they have next year for generational talent?

I wouldn't sleep on Kris Murray from what I've seen this year. Looks somewhat like his brother did last year, certainly made a significant jump from last year to this, could make the same next year.

Notice I said could. Not will. Hard to imagine he will, but the ability is there and I believe he shoots the 3 decently but could be wrong.

Why would he hang around as well?

Kris would be the next in line, but I don’t think he’s the same player as Keegan.

1. Ulis / Connor (if he returns)
2. Sandfort
3. Kris
4. Patrick
5. Ogundele

They are smooth players. They play hard and don't complain.
It seems McFran consistently has a player in the top 3 of B1G conference scoring. The list is convincing from Gatens, Cook, White, Marble, Garza, and Murray. MurryII probably next year.

I know, but I thought Murray wasn't even on this level he's at now.
Do you think we get any surprise returns next year - I mean, is there any loophole, Covid-type provisions ConMcFran, or their center can return ? How can Connor return - is there a medical provision?

Connor and I actually think Rebraca can return and use their COVID year.

For us, every single guy on our roster can return if they’d choose to.
