The Fran fade

Toppin is fabulous. Not arguing that point at all. Where he is going in the NBA draft should never be a factor in college recognition. I'm biased and admit it. I just think when it's that close that the level of competition that it was done against should be considered. We'll never know but maybe Toppin would put up similar numbers in the BIG 10. I'd be willing to bet that Garza would probably have put up even bigger numbers in Toppins conference.
That's the same argument that people tried to make when saying LeBron wouldn't be able to put up the same numbers in the West as he did in the East due to competition increasing, and yet here he is.

And me bringing Toppin up as a lottery pick shouldn't hurt his case since you're using his conference against him. Obi's obviously good enough to be taken very highly in a league where the world's best basketball players play. Wouldn't that mean that they believe his game transitions with the competition increase?

Wondering how Haliburton is considered a lottery pick and Garza not? Asking for friend.
Garza POY and Wooden award candidate and I've seen nothing about him as a lottery pick.

Garza doesn't exactly fit the NBA mold right now. They also play completely different positions. On most draft boards, Garza isn't even listed. He's a tremendous college basketball player but was probably born a bit too late.

I'm not bitter about the whole thing like some think. Just would've liked to have seen Garza get it obviously. Just don't think who is going to be a better pro should have anything to do with college awards. I'm not ripping on or doubting Toppin at all, just making an argument for Garza.

Exactly. He's just trying to be a CyTwins wannabe.

My point about him going pro was not to enhance his side of the argument. It was to minimize your statement regarding his level of play. If NBA scouts thought he was only good because he was playing against bad competition, he wouldn't be a projected lottery pick. Plenty of great NBA players have gone to smaller colleges.

I don't think the NBA had anything to do with who won it

I'm ok with it. He'll have another run at it next season. Unfortunately for you, Garza not winning the award is the happiest day in months for Clone fans.

It came down to Toppin putting up 20 and 8 on a team that only lost 2 games. Garza lost 11. That's the difference
Hawks needed a couple more wins. If they'd only played Florida A&M and let Garza drop 50 on them instead of playing San Diego state.

Ja Murant dominated low level teams too. Does that mean he wasn't that good? Absolutely not. Gonzaga plays in a weak conference does that mean their team / players shouldn't be recognized? Absolutely not.

Toppin is going to be a top 5 draft pick, played on a terrific Dayton team, and was an absolute highlight reel. It was a toss up between him and Garza and Garza lost. Garza not receiving this doesn't take away from what he did this year.
Garza has next year.
