The Best Team Lost...Again

Michigan, PSU, Nebby... you're missing the unexpected WTF 'L' that happens to us every season.
Not really a wtf loss since you guys lose to Northwestern a lot, but theres a good chance Iowa loses that in Evanston. I don’t think you guys will really have a wtf loss

Good teams don't shoot themselves in the foot repeatedly. If you want the say the team with the most talent lost, that I will agree with. ISU had a lot of opportunities to win that game, and win in going away, but they made a lot of mistakes on both sides of the ball and special teams. As the coach says, just need to get better with details to be a good team. Certainly encouraging that the team went toe to toe with TOE, but in the end the team the got the TOs instead of dropping them, that converted 3rd downs, that failed to fair catch kickoffs, that ran over it's own punt returner lost.

Lose to Nebraska?
Yeah, hurts to say but I think they get us this year. They’re pretty talented based off recent recruiting rankings and might be buying into Frosts system by then. They dropped a road rivalry game but are still sitting in a pretty good spot in I think they’ll be pretty fired up to not go 0-5 against Iowa.

Yeah, I tried to cover it at the bottom with a possible Minn or Purdue loss. Don’t think NW would even surprise me this year. Purdue (shockingly) would.

They make your secondary look good

The Big 10 West is so bad so 7 or 8 wins wouldn’t shock me. With the hok luck and crappy schedule, a 5-7 team will probably go 8-4 or 7-5.

We did poorly taking advantage of it. There’s plenty of opponents left that will exploit that secondary better than we did.
Agreed. Let’s hope we can get some bodies healthy so we’re not throwing a walk-on safety or #5 CB back there. Bye week came at a good time for us.

I'm tired of it happening, but TOE has to be the luckiest group I've ever seen. I went back and watched some of it again (as painful as it was) and it just jumps off the screen how much better we are than them. Yet somehow, we would have some bogus penalty, or some other crazy play to kill our momentum. I feel like we would beat them 9 out of 10 times, but it's their Superbowl, so they can have it and be mediocre all year. Let's get to the Big 12 title game.

Said it many times as a coach, "little things means a lot, and little things turn into big things." We made the plays, had the yards, but the little things bit us in the butt, and Iowa gets the scoreboard.

Iowa was very short in the secondary, so they had their issues going into the game and still won it. Give them credit for going on the road with a short handed secondary and pulling out the win. They are patient, smart and disciplined, that is why they won. If ISU had those traits at Iowa's level, ISU may have won. With that said,I think the biggest factor in the game was Iowa playing 2 games against D1schools and us playing only one game against an FCS school. Our guys just did not have the opportunity to have enough game reps, film work, and coaching to be really sharp. This was evident from Jay Jordan's write up. He said said everyone is focused on the mental mistakes like not catching an interception, but in reality, we were not sharp, especially on defense. Execution was the issue, and we had guys missing tackles, taking bad angles, and not being where they were supposed to be. They were still rusty after the off season and only one game. Had they had 60 more or so live game reps, they would have been sharper.
