Texas has no chance

I don't think we'll be considered underdogs in this one..but if somehow they have texas favored, I might have to take a quick flight to vegas.

line opened Texas -1

With them needing a win to get in and them being Texas we may want to lube up for pre-game.

Wow I can't believe that Vegas doesn't have us favored. We were just favored against a top 10 Baylor team and beat them just a few days ago and now we are dogs to a team not near as good as Baylor. I could maybe understand if it was at Texas but it is still at a neutral site.

Doug Gottlieb says this is a MUST win for Texas and Iowa State is in fact beatable, so Texas should walk away with W. What a *******.

while I think this will be a close game, its like people forget we are playing for SEEDING...we are not there just to play a meaningless game, we are trying to get ourselves out of the 8/9 game, so Texas could win but it wont be because the game meant more to them...

Every team is beatable, otherwise what is the point of even playing the game. I don't agree with his analysis, but come on...my 4-year old could have mad that prediction and would be just as correct.

Definitely odd, particularly given that Vegas usually accounts for injuries like that to Wangmene. But usually Vegas knows what it is doing . . . . What am I not considering?

So, basically, Doug is saying we aren't Kentucky.

Let...me...write...this...down.

They aren't predicting Texas to win. Texas has a more national brand and people will lean towards betting them over ISU based just on perception. Not to mention the back-against-the wall factor that novice bettors have a hard-on for.

If ISU were favored there'd be to much money on Texas for Vegas' liking.

Long story short: The betting line is not a prediction.

Good post.

I think we win, but it concerns me to play a team desperate for a win. With Babb on Brown, I really like our chances.

Yes, that is some cogent, insightful analysis right there. No way a fan could have revealed such sharp commentary.
I generally have appreciated Gottlieb in years past, but this year he has seemed..just..off. He must have gotten some "professional coaching" from an expert in Bristol in the off-season.

Great points, and that is what I missed. + rep

Also, there are a lot of stupid people from the state of Texas who will bet on the Whorns which will skew the line.

Especially now that Alexis Wangmene is out

I am happy for our 3 seed. Again, why would you want to play K-State again? They are full strength, and a tough match up for us. It is tough to beat a team 3 times too. We have something to prove against UT. We played POORLY down in Austin. This should be the best motivation for our guys to head down and whoop them in KC. Plus, the big men for texas are banged up. We should put it on them and get the crowd on our side early and keep them down.

Then, we play those snakes in Missouri.... if they can move on against Okie Lite. And you did see what I said about beating a team 3 times right?

GO CYCLONES!

Either one works for me. OSU is hurting and it is very hard to beat a team 3 times in a year (hence why most of us didn't want to play KSU in round 1).

They peed both Mizzou games down their leg and I doubt the players are going to want that feeling again. Frankly, I like the chances against Mizzou.

i keep hearing its hard to beat a team 3 times in one year, but i dont see stats to back it up.

Id rather risk playing a bad team 3 teams and beat them 3 times. Then a good team that has beat us twice already, and expect to beat them all of the sudden...

I just want to see some numbers to back up the notion that a team doesnt usually beat the same team 3 times in one year.

I guess I just don't buy the whole "Texas needs it more so they will play better" theory. How many times has ISU football been in that situation only to lose? Especially in the McCarney era. (I'm not ragging on McCarney, just trying to put the theory in the perspective of ISU fans).

Still, I'm not saying ISU's gonna, for sure, win. I just don't buy that line of logic.

It's only logical if the other team has nothing to play for. Then it makes some sense. ISU has plenty to play for and Texas is going to be our *****. I can only say this so many times.

Honestly, I think Texas is already in. Would a win over a tournament lock ensure it? I would hope so.

Lunardi now has Drexel among Last 4 in, Texas in First 4 Out. Can someone compare these resumes and tell me if I'm missing something?

Texas vs. Drexel

I don't claim Drexel also shouldn't make the field (although, actually, it shouldn't) but it should not be in before Texas (among other teams).

I realize Lunardi is not the last word on these things, but (1) he's the most prominent analyst for bracket guessing and (2) that's what he does all season long.
