Texas has no chance

I don't think we'll slip all the way to an 8 seed. Despite the early season losses to Drake and UNI, we have played a very solid Big 12 season and I think the 3rd place Big 12 team is at least a 7 seed.

The selection committee will put a lot more thought into this than analysts and will hopefully give ISU some respect for a very nice season so far.

Again, Tejas has been playing for their lives for a while now and it hasn't much helped their performance.

They've won 2 of their last 5. ISU needs to show up but if ISU plays well, Cydkar will be right.

Texas has a bunch of youngsters who will be feeling the pressure. It doesn't bode well for them, especially when they have a few injuries and their bench is a bit shorter.

I'm pretty sure our team will be just as motivated as the Longhorns to go out there and win. We are due to win a game in the Big 12 Tournament, and this year we have the team to do it.

Yeah, first game is huge..If we get through Texas, I don't think it matters what happens against missouri..we should avoid that 8/9 game(I hope). But this first game is huge.

If they beat Texas I think they definitely avoid the 8 vs 9 game. I think any wins after that would improve them a seed per win. If beating Texas puts them at the 7 seed, a win over Mizzou would probably bump them to a 6, a win in the title game would probably bump them to a 5 seed. ISU has A LOT to play for down in Kansas City. It's March... It's win or go home time now.

We can talk intangibles alll day but here are some hard numbers.

2011-12 Men's Basketball Conference Statistics - Big 12 Conference - Official Athletic Site

The things that we do well vs what they do match up in our favor.

ISU is the best 3pt % shooting team and UT is the second worst 3pt defense.

Conversely, ISU is has the best 3pt Defense and UT has the second worst 3pt %.

The one thing that UT has a decided advantage is Offensive rebounding. However with the loss of Wangmene, their second best Off Rebounder, that advantage will be reduced.

TO's will be a factor. UT has a better TO margin. If ISU can keep UT's points off of TO's under control and if ISU's 3pt shooting isn't abysmal like in Austin then ISU will win.

If we win the Big 12 tournament, we'll be a 3-4 seed at the lowest. I still think we're a 7 or higher even with a loss against Texas.

He had quite a lengthy article on why his computer was wrong, but he couldn't scrap everything else just because of Wisconsin.

I like Ken Pomeroy takes and subscribe to his site, but I think he missed the boat on that article. His system overrates Wisconsin and teams like Wisconsin every year. His system loved a similar team in Washington State (coached by Tony Bennett) a few years ago. I'm working on an email to try to convince him that he needs to change it, but don't think it's going to work.

IMO, he has to find a way to lower teams with large standard deviations on their defensive performance (ignoring SOS) over the course of the year. Iowa State has a small standard deviation defensively because we don't play that well defensively against bad teams and we have played well against good teams. Wisconsin dominates bad teams, and then doesn't play nearly as well against good teams. That is why he continually overrates them.

I hope you know what you are doing here. If we were to lose, you would officially become the bad luck guy.

It's foolproof. Don't worry. Luck is for teams that aren't good. Texas needs luck, we don't.

I wouldn't be so brash as to predict a victory against Texas, but I do think our guys want a little payback against TX & want to win the conference tournament.

Look for our seniors to come up BIG in this one.

Babb is going to show everyone there what's up and Brown will be mortalized. Like I said, game over.

When I try and figure out how this game is going to turn out I look at Texas' game at KU and ISU at Texas.

Texas gave KU everything they had for the first half and for the first few minutes of the second half. Then KU pulled away. That speaks to UTs lack of depth.
UT also got 33 points from Brown. Does anyone who has watched ISU play in the last month think that Brown will get that many with Babb in his face all day long? The last time ISu and Texas met up, Brown was held to 12 points on 3 of 16 from the field. The 12 points were his second lowest total in Big12 play. (He scored 6 in a win against OSU but he didn't play the whole game.)

UT will come out and give ISU everything they have and keep it close through the first half. In the second half, Brown will get frustrated and force shots like he did his last time against ISU. This time, ISU will not shoot 5-21 from three point range or 33% overall.

Unless that bad team is Iowa, then Wisconsin apparently enjoys crapping themselves.

I'm not sure what that other conference has to do with this thread.:spinny:
