Tailgating on Saturday

Ed Wilson on WHO last night said gameday should be okay in terms of rain, but that they expect a LOT of rain on Friday/Friday night. He even mentioned the likelihood of ISU's grass lots being too swampy. Haven't seen or heard anything from ISU yet, though.

I'm already planning on them being closed.
I am having a difficult time remembering ..... We drive in on Friday nights, and VetMet it with the RV. Is there 'over the counter' parking for RVs when the grass lots close, and do they still allow Friday evening arrivals?

Anyone remember how that goes?

Yes, bad. For the one game(?) last year when they closed the grass lots, we parked in the Walmart parking lot and then moved to the stadium lot after the game.

However that was when the game was during the day, not at night and Walmart will only allow you to park one evening.

Of course I look at this from an RV perspective, but isn’t it a lot easier to find a place to park a car than for all the folks who come to town in an RV to find an alternate spot?

In the past if they closed the grass lots Vet Med is off limits to campers. Typically they send campers to the north side of.campus somewhere. We typically try to find somewhere else to park as that is just to far from the stadium. If someone comes up with a different option if they close the lot let us know.

As far as rain today it didn't rain much from.what my brithbr in law said. That doesn't mean it won't rain tonight. Pray for little to no rain Friday morning and we may be good.

I think the farm progress show is a bad comparison because they have had equipment going in and out all week causing no grass left on the surface. When I pulled in last night it was nothing but dirt.

I have no idea what the actual totals were today, but I thought it was raining pretty consistently with a couple down pours FWIW

My brother in law who lives on the north side of Ames said that he got less than a inch of rain and they aren't calling for rain until late Thursday night/early Friday morning so hope for little to no rain.

A couple of years ago.... perhaps the UNI game we had a similar situation and with the grass lots closed they were parking Vet Med RVs in the old Kmart parking lot. Wasn’t ideal, but it worked.

Current QPF (Quantitative Precipitation Forecast) has about another inch or so through Friday evening. Saturday has lower chances as the rain should stay to the south of 80 but if the boundary moves north at all there may be light rain off and on Saturday.

Also there is currently a decent chance of severe weather overnight Friday night into Saturday so those of you in the RV lots keep an eye on the weather.

A lot can change between now and Saturday but that area of central Iowa has been the sweet spot for all of the systems this year... At this point I don't even know what plan B will be.
