Since I was 6 (Elway vs. Packers)? I used to live in Colorado before that.......albeit for a little time.

I'm a diehard Peyton fan so right now a diehard Broncos fan. Once he retires, I'll still like them a lot, but like many people, not nearly as much.
I'll agree with universally respected, but I don't know about loved. During his Indy days he had a reputation as a micromanager and control freak, and it rubbed some teammates the wrong way. During his first Super Bowl trip there was a minor story about a faction of players who wanted to have their respective spouses and families stay in the team hotel. Manning squashed that because he wanted total focus on the game. I'm not saying that he was wrong about the focus part, but I do remember that not sitting well with some members of that team.
And of course there was the "I'm trying to be a good teammate here" incident after yet another Colts playoff flameout where he threw his o line under the bus.
No doubt he's an all time great and universally respected, but you could probably dig up more than a few past teammates that didn't care much for him personally.
Happy for Peyton. Gets to go out on top. Didn't have a dog in the race, but was pulling for him.
As far as the Brady vs Manning argument. Both are great quarterbacks. But this is like comparing Montana vs Elway in my mind. Montana is a great quarterback, and to me the greatest super bowl quarterback ever. But he benefited from the system that Walsh created in San Francisco, and probably couldn't have duplicated those results anywhere else. While Elway would have gotten his results no matter what team he played for. In my mind that is the Brady vs Manning comparison as well. Brady is a great quarterback who fell into the perfect system/coach for him. Manning gets his results no matter what team he plays for. All 4 quarterbacks are great and among the greatest ever. And if you were starting a team with any of them in their prime, you wouldn't be upset. And I don't care which side of the argument you are on, you have to recognize the guy on the other side of it is exceptional.

All good points. That's the problem with the "best ever" debates. Sooner or later it always devolves into "one guy was awesome, therefore the other one sucks balls".
