Summer Conditioning

oh geez, I read the whole article and I take away 3 things:

1. Burton is going to quit the team
2. Niang is going to tear something in his knee
3. Babb is going to have shin splints

Being a Cyclone fan has lead me to read way to much onto the negative side, sorry guys

I like what I am hearing about how Prohm is handling this off-season. I think he is still a "player's coach" and the kids like him, but I also think he is more of a disciplinarian than Fred was, which will hopefully get us away from the entitlement/lazy/just-hand-us-the-win attitude we seemed to have at times last year.

I like this. I think we were mentally weak at times last year. Letting a bad play or call become 3 bad plays. If we could combine last year's talent with the 2000 team's toughness, final 4 contention.

He is Mr. Miagi'ing (sp?) them into a team that can play in your face ball pressure defense for 40 minutes.

I agree with much of this.

I like the idea of the early morning workouts that CSP seems to prefer. Keeps the guys from staying out too late the night before, and keeps them out of trouble, hopefully. At least it can't hurt.

Like the discipline team building aspect but not so sure about doing intervals like that if you have not done some base running miles. Just jumping in, even for conditioned athletes, doesn't sound like that good of an idea and it's not something track guys would do.

We will know who is on the team next Wednesday if someone would do a little scouting and take a picture.

There we go...

I am pretty sure they are playing enough basketball, lifting weights, and doing other conditioning that they have a good baseline built up and should be just fine with the workout that was mentioned.

You should email Moser and tell him

I know Kansas goes through a "hell week" at the beginning of practice. I know I always had to go through that for sports in high school too. Probably not a bad idea.

This is good. With our lack of depth, and the fast pace that we play, if we're going to compete more intensely defensively and on the glass, we're going to need to be well conditioned.

I think everyone agrees, (including players hopefully) that to take the next step and be more consistent, we have to be more intense on the defensive end, and play with more mental toughness.

At the end of the season, it's things like mental toughness and defensive effort that will be what ensures or separates this team from being good or great.
