Student turnout is apalling

If a student can't go to the game why can't that student give their ticket to another student?

If you can't be there make sure there is a butt in your seat cheering. Fans make a difference in the outcome of a game.

1. I am Catholic, I celebrated Ash Wednesday at night. I had classes during the day, excuse me.
2. I have a test today, I can't spend the 4 hours it takes on game nights and not study for a midterm.
3. Today is the first time this semester I had to go somewhere at 7 in the morning, and it's 30 minutes from my house, at a place I've never been before. I was up at 5:30.

You don't need to know my personal life, it's not worth anyones time. The point this should be showing is that students aren't just sitting on their ***** not caring about them. I had the game on while I studied. Last night was an embarrassing appearance from the student section. But there really haven't been many NON-break games that have been terrible.

If you want to discuss bad student turn out CONSISTENTLY, go to a Nebraska, Iowa, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, or Texas Tech game.

Id say you have a very legitimate excuse, and I'm sure you're not the only one. But when over 60% of student season ticket holders are not showing up, there is an overall problem.

$9,000 is what I pay, some will pay more and some will pay less. Its not the same as a donation to the athletic department, but it is effectively the same as you have to pay tuition to buy student tickets. Just like you have to donate to buy other season tickets.
 
I think the students here are taking offense when none should be taken. I assume most of the students that post on here or those of us that just visit here often are making it to most of the games. We see a bunch of guys ******** about the students and we get mad cause we stand for most of the game while the rest of the stadium only get on their feet 4 times a game. We're cheering, trying to bring the magic back after years of ****, and some posters are trying to take away some of our seats or make it harder to get tickets.

The thing is, we should be on the same side. Us students should be ****** at the students that never show up. How many kids do you know that didn't come to the game last night? I know 2, and I should have tried harder to get them to come. Everyone has that friend that misses a ton of games, lets try to get them going to games or help them pass on their tickets to someone that wants it.
 
Heres the thing...

Most everyone will agree that the "break games" completely suck because the students sections are not in tact for those games. Even the Texas game this year didn't have the right feel because there were no students. The student section creates an environment and energy that the rest of the stadium usually feeds off of. The student section makes games enjoyable for me and a lot of other people. Without student sections, games would be boring and less enjoyable in most any college sport.

Now all the sudden we have a team that is helping create a lot of positive energy, yet we don't have a student section helping take that energy over the top. When the students don't show up, the environment at the games is more lackluster, and some people, myself included, think that sucks.
 
Here's the deal students. If you are waiting for consistent success to start going to more games, then you might miss out. You only get 4, or 5, or 6 years to buy student tickets and not every one of those years are going to be winners.

Bottom line, they need to revamp how they sell/distribute the student tickets so that those that want to come, can.
 
I think the bottom line is students aren't that interested in Cyclone basketball, most of the excuses people are giving students are proven wrong by the fact that football attendance isn't impacted by any of those reasons. There's a bigger buzz around the basketball program than there has been in years and it doesn't matter. Football games have a bigger social component to it that draws in students who may have never cared about football or even ISU and turns them into fans, heck some are just there to drink/tailgate or just because its the thing to do. CA was an attempt to do something similar but its backfired. I'm not calling for it to go, but it probably wouldn't hurt JP to take a look at tweaking it.
 
For all you people complaining about Iowa State... lets compare to THE Ohio State University... they allot 4500 student tickets. Sell 1100 and only 850 show up.

You don't think they have had success in the past few seasons?
You don't think they have TWICE as many students as us?
You don't think their arena is within walking distance either?

So you're all saying a a University of 60k, the 3rd biggest in THE COUNTRY can't fill up their measly student section and you're complaining that we don't fill up our student section against Oklahoma and Texas Tech. Give me a break!

Quit your b*tching and be happy we have a great fanbase... good lord.

Well, I pay more than 9K for my seats every year, but I'll cut you a break and if you agree to keep paying tuition as long as I keep buying my tickets then yes you can count it.

Oh, and out of curiosity do you get anything else for your money other than basketball tickets. I'm starting to think I might be getting short changed because that is pretty much all I get.

Who gives a **** what other schools are doing? Point is, we can, and should, be doing a lot better.

Did you not look through the past 20+ pages? Numerous times there was "We have 25k students and we can't fill up a 2500 seat student section". We have amazing attendance compared to a TOP 10 team.

And I'm saying stop comparing us to other schools to try and make ISU's situation look better and more acceptable. Who gives a **** what Ohio State students are doing.

Then you, along with all the other alumni, should stop blowing this 100x way out of proportion with a thread after EVERY. SINGLE. GAME!

Plus it was Freaking Texas Tech... I could understand if it had been KU or Mizzou or Baylor hell anyone other than the last place team in the Big 12. I really wish we lived closer as I would have loved to have been there, but give the students some slack. Its no different than football, kids dont fill the student section vs noncon teams. Yes TT is a confrence game but they are 8-20... Please this is sad. Did you make every single game while you were a student, a small percentage can say yes but most of us cant say that without lying!
 
Take a study break if there's so much homework, plan ahead, etc.

There were even empty student tickets for KU, Mizzou, etc. If anything, plan on a certain amount of no shows just like any event invitation. Bring out some folding chairs and place around top of lower level if by chance they do all show. Standing room area for latest student arrivals? Seeing a full house is so great; makes an awesome atmosphere!!!

Then tell your fellow students who have season tickets and don't use them EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. to start using them.
