Just a random question I've thought about. What benefit does one get from putting student section leader on a resume? I guess someone has to come up with a budget for Cyclone Alley and do accounting type work and they send emails out so that's like marketing? But seriously, what kind a hiring manager is going to say, "Hey, this dude handed out bandanas and sat in the first row at basketball games, lets hire him for sure." Especially if anyone asked about results, which should be a common follow up. "Oh, you're organization isn't very popular among students or non-student fans? Less than 40% of students who buy tickets actually show up to the games? (It's probably not fair to blame CA for lack of attendance, but that's how a lot of people feel.) Seems like the work you're doing is really paying off." I'd guess most kids who do it, do it for fun, or perks, or to be with friends (or maybe status/power) more than as a resume builder, but to me it seems like a waste of time.
If Cyclone Alley leaders are raking in some of the fee money, I guess that would be an incentive, but I think a lot of people would have a problem with that.
For the record, I have both paid for Cyclone Alley and got tickets without paying for Cyclone Alley for a season. If they did a bus to an away men's game (probably at least $40 deal just for that one trip, which would cover the $30+$5 or 10 they charged for the bus), I considered my investment worthwhile, otherwise not so much. *Note, I will say that if you add up the costs of all the free stuff you get during a season, it is surely at or above the fee, it's just that I'd rather have $30 than all of that stuff.
