I guess I figure that the more people discuss these things, the more likely they are to be noticed and changed, but I'm just a self-involved law student with little filter on my opinion as it pertains to sports.

It takes more than a season to change the culture. Students have "grown up" around bad Cyclone teams. It doesn't just change in a heartbeat, or even this one season.
I have more pictures but they suck.... Yes the student section wasn't great but the whole arena wasn't "sold out". It was against a bad team and on a Wednesday night. Attendance is always a little weaker on week days. Let's quit blaming each other on who sucks at showing up and cheering and just cheer for the team.
Putting the student tickets on the ISU id cards has hurt student attendance. It's as simple as that. I know that if I wasnt able to make it to a game it would be hard to find someone who would want to deal with transferring tickets to another card. My past three years here I have bought many tickets from people to get friends into games but this year it just sucks. A lot of times for students it comes down to an hour or two before game time before they decide they just have too much work to do and know we can't just hand our ticket to someone else we have to deal with transferring.

I think the issue is the structuring of student basketball tickets.
That is something true as well. Other sections have fans that remember when we were good. The current student section hasnt seen anything good since they were having naptime at school. Each year we'll build upon the culture in the student section (another reason the knee jerk 'take their seats' would be a horrible idea), and things will get better. We're already seeing it this year, students havent filled things but theyve been more involved than ever. Continual improvement in the culture along with the improvements in tickets i listed earlier will make things much better.
Yeah, tailgating has no influence on this. Conveniently, football tickets were on the cards last fall.
This isn't that complicated of a problem. They just need to give the students who attend a lot of games preference when selling tickets. My brother had to buy $99 dollar season tickets because a bunch of freshmen who don't like basketball bought the full sports package. Those seats sit empty so he can be closer is cyclone alley.

The lower level of the student section was about 3/4ths full. Not just an empty row or two.
I usually don't like these threads either, and I've thought the student section was A LOT better this year than recent years, but these last 2 games have been terrible. Saturday's excuse was "its the weekend and people went home". Now the excuse is "its a weekday, no one has time". I just want to know when this convenient time for college basketball is.

Culture right now is football-oriented. I asked students in the fall who was going to football, and it was nearly unanimous. I've asked a few times about basketball, and people just generally aren't into basketball like they used to be.
Couple the cultural shift with some struggling teams and it takes a year or two to bring students in. Our paid and actual attendance are pretty amazing. Complaining about it seems like a real waste of carpal strength.
When I was in college, tailgating was as crazy as it is now, but the student section only really filled up for the big games.
It's full every damn game now. The students are better at supporting football than they were then. They are worse at basketball. Our football team isn't really any better (in terms of wins and losses) than 04-05, and neither is our basketball team right now.
Part of that is people with hillsides sneaking in, but still.

There were many empty seats around the whole arena. I told you I have more pictures, but they came out ******. I took them just because I knew when I got back from the game and would come on to this site, the thread bashing the students would be here. I know you may think it's not about us but it is. We just beat a team by 18 and you have to say this. Amazing how when someone comes on here and ******* about something stupid they get their *** chewed. Threads like this are annoying and getting old. I agree it was terrible tonight but the whole attendance sucked....
Agree with you Al, but thats comparing apples to oranges, people make a day out of football, sometimes its hard to make it to the bball games.
That being said, I graduated last December and this year's SS is much better than my 4 years IMO. It will continue to improve as our basketball team does. Its a simple correlation.
There were many rows that were empty... That was a small portion.... If you were at the game you would have saw this as well.
All we need is a student indoor tailgating facility for basketball. Booze is the reason 50%+ of fans go to football games.
All I can say is look at the opponents. For me I look forward all week for each game and am ready to cheer them on when I get to Hilton. The problem is that many students find it hard to get excited about a bottom tier big 12 opponent, which I agree is sad.
