Student turnout is apalling

the students should make a thread called "adult turnout is appalling".

The adults will think it's ridiculous and will get as butthurt as us students are...exactly my point..it's a joint problem...students and adults...blaming just students is pure ignorance.

Other than the fact that the 3 games I've been to, the only glaring whole in the crowd I could see was balcony behind the hoops. Those games were Kansas, Iowa, and Texas, granted, but my family has been to every conference game and only missed one or two non-con games this season.

I always planned ahead when it came to going to basketball games. There was nothing else I looked forward to more than going to Hilton. I'm obviously in the minority though.
As do I, but the majority of students are clueless as to how to manage time.
1. We need more generalized seating where people that want to stand and cheer can do so in a section with others than can stand and cheer.

2. First come first serve for students, those that want to be there will be there. In big games like Kansas we can hold the seats as more students are likely to show up.

3. Test nights are stupid, especially on a Wednesday when we play 95% of our games that are played on a week night.

4. If no one complains, how does CA/ISU Athletic Dept. determine what needs to be changed? This is the #1 Cyclone fan site on the net, if ISU Athletic Dept. reads any site regarding fan interests, it's this one.
Iowa State is an academic institution last time I checked. #3 has always and will always happen.

missed rvenue as in selling to someone like me who would pay 3 times as much as a student to sit down low.
That "missed" revenue is nothing. Those seats are full the majority of the time, and are a lot more expensive than a $125 ticket. Each student on campus has a $55 fee that's going to athletics on top of that. Are you also covering that?

Ive said it before and i'll say it again:

For next year:
Go to paper tickets. Students pick them up before the season. Much easier to resell paper tickets.

All student tickets not picked up by tipoff may be resold each game until the student picks up their tickets (lets other fans fill those seats if it is a sellout, and takes care of the number that never bother to pick up their tickets)

Students may resell their tickets to anyone in the general public as general admission, balcony tickets (opening them up to a larger pool of who they can sell them to). They pay more than the general public does for those tickets, so why shouldnt they be able to sell them to the general public? (CA shirt still required for lower level access)

And for those that think itd be a brilliant idea to take away student seats... they sold out those seats. As long as they sell those seats in the summer there will always be some that buy and never use.. so you'll just be pushing a gap in the balcony to a gap in the parquet, and shutting the door on students that do want to go to the games (hence why i have the item about letting the AD resell tickets of those that never bother to pick up their tickets).

Until next year, nothing is getting fixed. So these threads every single game are pointless, and really should stop. Only one more home game i guess. Will it be one without one of these idiotic threads?

I know 3 won't change but I had to throw it in there. I have a hard time believing half of the student section had tests though...

The only reasons I deliberately miss a home game are for 1. I have a test (I'll skip a class in a heartbeat, unless there's a test or a paper due), or 2. I'm on assignment somewhere else for the newspaper (that's happened twice this year).

I didn't make it to the Indiana game because I forgot my ticket (I forget things a lot).

There are certainly other things that the other people in the building can do to pick up the atmosphere, but students lead the way far more often than not. And there's no good reason that students with a team as good as this one can't fill the seats.

You have to select the package. You can also buy football and basketball separately. Try again.

I was a student once I know these things. I meant don't offer the all sport package and you would have a lot less unused MBB tickets. Adult Admission $ > Student Admission $.

seriously? student attendance sucked, but so did everwhere else. I had a half a row empty in the parquet in front of me. tons of empty seats everywhere. I thought about taking pictures for the inevitable thread (they are really getting old) but figured I'd watch the game instead. one year where the rest of the crowd doesn't suck and all of a sudden they have to feel superior by calling out the students. we won, ******* enjoy it!

You're not getting the point.

The point is that the student attendance is really, really, inexcusably bad and our AD would be well served to remedy the situation. Be that reducing student seating or making tickets transferrable, having a large group of seats tied up by people who never use them is bad. It looks like **** on TV, keeps fans who want to go to the game out of the arena, doesn't help the team get psyched up, and doesn't produce any revenue in terms of concessions and what not.

The regular crowd should never out draw the students by percentage. This isn't an indictment of these kids. They are AWESOME on fall Saturdays. Our football student section is overflowing. I'd like to see some of it in the winter.

Students pay $125 for those tickets for less games where adults pay $99 for those tickets. $125 > $99.

I'm not all worried about the money as the tickets are sold. That is not of concern to me and I'm not sure how I got on to that topic, I would just like to fill the seats every game and we have done that maybe once.

And none of this will be fixed until next year, so why another thread?

And how many fans were kept out today that wanted to go? Plenty of empty seats elsewhere. Plenty of tickets outside the front steps.

The $99 tickets won't last long. When you're team goes 3-13 you have to fill those seats somehow. This season being picked 8th. Excitement is at a 10 year high, the prices will rise.

I'm a student at ISU and have been to every game. I think the student turnout has been pathetic and they should reduce student seating so people that actually want to go to games can, especially for next year. I see more sellouts coming.

First off, student attendance is 1000 times better than its been the past few seasons. Yes, it still isn't good. But the last couple years the lowest level of the CA sections would be half full for conference games. Now its always full and the rest of CA is 50% full at its worst. I always sit in the east side CA sections, so I can't really judge how full the balcony student section is, but I'd assume it's pretty empty most games.

But there are student attendance problems that need addressed. Clearly the AD and CA need to rethink how they market games to students, CA rules, and ticket policy. What they are doing isn't working.

Part of the problem they can't really do much about. Basketball just isn't all that popular. Just look at Duke's student attendance issues. Compared with football, there is a much smaller segment of students that are interested in going to basketball games.

Part of the problem will be fixed by winning more. We've sucked for so long that even with this great season, people haven't realized we're good at basketball now. I think us college sports addicted message board fans forget that most people don't know a whole lot about who is good and who isn't. A nice run in the NCAA's, where casual fans are paying more attention, could really help change that, as well as the high expectations for next season.

We also have issues with the students (or their parents) who buy the all-sports package at the start of the year, but don't care about anything other than football. I know somebody who has season basketball tickets, but has only gone to one game all year (Oklahoma). These are the people that cause us to sell out student tickets but have hundreds of open seats in the student section every game.

agreed time to abolish season tickets for students. game by game. sell off the rest.

If your goal is to cut down student attendance even more and bring down overall attendance, this is a brilliant plan.

And those student tickets for football and basketball are doing millions in revenue.

And I was wrong before. Students are charged $45 in fees that goes to the AD. Plus $125/sport for tickets. Adults in those seats won't touch students.
