Student turnout is apalling

Yes this is an awesome year for basketball, but we have been bad for so long the students are still shacky about going. Plus we aren't a basketball power house. We aren't like duke and UNC who are those!

Can we please stop these stupid threads???!!! Sorry the student sections can't live up to being 100% full every time like they were for 2000-2005!!! Remember, there was a pattern of winning then and that's why the students were there!

Sorry this is all the farther i have read, but wanted to respond... so to this person, ur telling me if you had five or six terrible concerts that were put on in Hilton it would stop u from going to a top concert put in there now?

If u dont wanna go, just say so. But as an ISU and sports fan, pitiful excuses.:twitcy:
 
Sorry, you can rationalize a low turnout by saying that it was a Wednesday game against a bottom feeder. But you can't rationalize the student section being half empty for a team attempting to get their first 20 win season in over a decade and fighting to get into the tournament.

There IS excitement for basketball this year, especially because it has been so bad previously. I am actually enjoying college basketball again and watching games whenever I can. Sorry, if the students aren't going to show up, resell their tickets for cheap and get people into the game.
 
I'm still trying to understand this CA thing. Do students get shirts for every game that they attend, or do they buy 1-2 shirts and are told to wear a certain one?

Get it at first games. To sit in the parquet you need to have the red one.

For games like the Kansas game with Gold Rules, they hand them out on campus and then at the game.

I've been hearing a big rumor that Paul and Ringo along with George's son (Dhani, looks just like him) and Sean Lennon will join together to form the Beatles again and have a couple of numbers at the London Olympics this summer for part of the opening ceremony. Obviously London officials are trying to get this together, since the Beatles are such a part of Brittish culture/history.

Now that is in a huge olympic style stadium!

Just now jumping in, but I'm with Al on this one. My biggest issue is some comparing student attendance numbers to those of the general public. Adults have responsibilities that can interfere with being able to be at an 8:00 Wednesday game-- be it children, work responsibilities, too far of drive, etc. Students are already on or near campus. Students can miss class. I understand some may have a test, and that is a perfectly fine excuse, but surely 95% of the student population doesn't have a test on the same day. What I fail to understand is how we can, for football, have 5,000+ students and we can't muster up 2,000 for basketball.

Student sections are an institution in basketball. They provide more of an advantage in basketball than football. It's time to step it up.

Get rid of second tier seating for students(NO student wants to sit up there). Keep the seats behind the basket. Give the seats behind the benches, up to the concrete divider to the students. Not as many student seating, but I guarantee it fills up every game and it opens the second tier seating for the general public which should fill up nicely for your average conference game.

Dont try to differentiate situations between students and non-students for not attending games. You make it sound non-students can make valid excuses and students cant. Everyone has unique situations that may hinder them from attending games. There are ALWAYS going to be a handful of sections of season ticket holders with empty seats. However, the argument here is that is is painfully obvious that the student season ticket holders are not showing up. While some of them probably do have valid excuses as to why they cant show up, it hard to believe that 60% of those student season ticket holders have a valid excuse. There is an obvious problem that needs to be solved here and it sounds like JP is on it.
 
Not making any excuses but I think these are the main reasons students don't show up to games quite like they should. Some of them are not valid to me but that is just my take.
McDermott years+More things for students to do than in the past+Texas Tech being horrible+Too many student tickets being sold+Cyclone Alley+Homework=Low student turnout.

That post wasnt even about the Beatles. By using them as my example, I was actually complimenting them. I thought about using Elvis but decided the Beatles were better. (they are to me anyway)
I think you completely missed the point I was trying to make. Its ok.

I am quite fine with picking on fat Elvis.

Fat Elvis gives me the creeps.
 
I had a meeting and I still showed up for the second half. It's a load of crap students can't make it to games because of homework, they just prioritize sleeping over the game. Some of my friends didn't go for their own reasons. One was even taking a nap. :mad:
Some of my other friends showed up in fruit costumes. I guess it's just how things are when we play texas tech on a wednesday.
