I dont live in Story County. I am 2 hours away. My son who spent over 6 weeks in the hospital this winter, needs a covid shot. He can drive but not far, not real confident yet. His immune system is compromised. All appointment are taken. I look, he looks, I call he calls. What are we not doing do get him his shots? This is asking for help. No politics or bashing of public health. I just got my second shot today in a rural county where I live.

My wife and daughter drove from Ankeny to Algona to get their vaccine shots. The pharmacist at the Hyvee said they actually throw away shots daily because nobody wants them in that area.

A lot of people I work with went from Ames to Algona. Rev is heading from Ames to Fort Dodge this weekend.

It takes some real aggression or cleverness to get into Ames.
That said, @ISUAgronomist will be the guy that can help get one in Ames.

Does he have an immunologist or something he is in contact with, i am sure they could point him in the right direction.

I used this. Pretty slick. Getting my first shot tomorrow.

Medical providers and pharmacies in Story County are taking appointments, mostly through online portals. Some vaccination sites are scheduling jabs over the phone.
Iowans with limited internet access or other barriers can call 211 or (800) 244-7431 to be assisted by a vaccine navigator. Vaccine navigators are available seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Translation services are available.

Looks like Story City has openings next Tuesday.

We ended up in Marshalltown and Des Moines. Ames was impossible. most people I know have gone out of town/county. No idea who is getting all the Ames appointments.

I was able to get one without too much trouble at Walgreens in Ames. I got my first one a couple weeks ago. But I’ve also gotten on some waiting list too with other locations and since been contacted by them to set an appointment.

No but thank you for the thought. His doctors all say the shots are hard to come by. My cynical view is doctors dont want involved in this maze. I dont blame them. They saved his life.

I am assuming he tried little nearby towns like Huxley, Slater, Boone, etc?

Saw an article a few weeks ago that DM people were driving to Corydon but that would be too far for him unless he had a driver it sounds like.

Fyi - it looks like Nucara in Story City has some openings for next Tuesday, if that's close enough.
