At TCUCould Ward play more than he has? Sure. but he also fouls at a higher rate than anyone on the team. And Jones is having a good season as well so it is difficult. I think the KU was the first game he played more minutes than Jones. Maybe that starts being a regular thing. where instead of Jones 22 and Ward 18 minutes it flips to Ward 22 and Jones 18.
Why do you believe you know everything? Are you in the locker room? Practices? Know any of the players? Know anyone associated with the program? We as fans have no clue why Ward, Watson, Omaha, ..etc TJ wants to play. He knows their conditioning, habits, mood, or whatever it is way better than any of us will ever know. Hell, what do I know if one of the players got a bad meal somewhere and feels like he'll crap his pants. They're all student athletes and have class loads. Maybe that has something to do with it. Girlfriends or break ups. Who knows? U don't so quit questioning this process. This is a fun ride and the team seems to have great chemistry that's only getting better. This is a terrible argument.
This is about as dumb as saying we should have limited Milan's minutes because he struggled defensively early in the year. The only way a player is going to get better is if you allow them to play through some mistakes and learn as they go. At times Ward has limited himself with fouls, I've admitted as much, but he's had FOUR games with 2 fouls or less in conference play. In such games he's averaged about 16.5 minutes a game.
Hey, the guy was injured and I was all for being conservative before conference play. Since it's started I've seen nothing from Ward that indicates he can't handle a higher workload. That doesn't mean 40 minutes a game, but it sure as hell (at least) means in the mid 20s, closer to 30 if she shows he can handle that.
Otz is arbitrarily limiting his minutes despite him being one of our best players. Do we sit Lipsey more so he can stay fresh? Or Milan? No, you play them as much as they can until it's shown to be detrimental.
TJ is flat out ******* up with Ward. There is really no substantial evidence to the contrary.

Yeah, that was something that occurred to me. I figure that kind of impact is strongly correlated with block percentage. Because of that correlation, all-in-one box score summary stats like Win Shares or BPM (both of which Ward is doing very well on right now, and I know ZRF likes to look at) that include block rates would already capture a lot of that kind of impact that isn't technically counted in the box score but is correlated with things that are.I would guess that guys don't want to attempt to shoot in the lane when he is there because of his shot blocking but other than that what else could there be?
You are making assumptions as to why Ward isn't playing more. You even stated you think Otz might not realize how good Ward is playing. What's more likely, the coach who turned around this program into the #12 ranked team in the country has no clue who's playing well on the team? Or that he might be limiting the minutes of a high energy player coming off an injury? I think the statistics reflect the fact that he's doing a great job of picking the spots to use Ward. There's a lot more to basketball than looking at who has the best per minute stats and playing them the most minutes. There are match-ups, injuries, experience, etc. to consider. People aren't giving you the actual reasons why Ward isn't playing more, because no one on this board knows why. But neither do you. Based on the results we all trust that Otz has a good reason for his rotations. So unless I had inside knowledge as to why Otz is playing the players the way he is, I wouldn't start a thread about it.Absolutely. But if we played Milan 20 minutes, and he was more effective (on a per minute basis) in those said 20 minutes, does that mean we are better off only playing him 20? Or Lipsey?
My point is we haven't played that card to even know. You are making an assumption about Ward whereas I am not. I'm saying he's wildly effective when he's on the floor and there is not much other than fouls (which again is a factor) that indicates he can't be effective playing 25 - 30 minutes a game. I've also never discounted the possibility that it MIGHT not work.
The problem I have with a lot of the responses is that they are lazy and purely anecdotal in nature. How can do what Hasan can or cannot do (in terms of minutes) if we don't let him show us on the court? To that question nobody has really given a great answer.
5 hours? Lol..this has been going on for months now. This, that, or whateverI will give him this , this has lasted 5 hours. So maybe he won in the end?
I dont think this is it at all. Most of us are just satisfied with the season so far so aren't obsessing over minute distribution when everything is working fine. It's like TJ can't possibly be wrong because he's the coach.

Jones and Ward are different types of players/defenders. Jones is physical in paint, solid in double teams and on-ball. Ward is much better in space and rim protector/shot blocker. It is definitely part of the problem but even when it hasn't he's arbitrarily had his minutes limited.
I think we will see everyone come conference tournament time. Last year we did it out of necessity, but for for reason it sticks in my mind TJ had a bigger rotation in the conference tournament his first year as well? It seemed like everyone just had an extra boost of energy because some guys got a chance to play and wanted to show what they had. I would be up for that if you are not necessarily playing for a certain seed line in the NCAA tournament. It's not all in a vacuum though.. Watson has started to play more because he's playing better in games. Pav has started to play less because he's a huge liability defensively and because C. Jones has shown that's his spot. A lot of these guys are playing their first season of basketball together and it can take a long time for things to click into place, which you're seeing at this very minute. Pav will not play much the rest of the year unless we're in a huge pinch, where he'll only be in a couple of minutes.
I think a lot of that had to do with the culture issue that was going on due to the Grill incident. There was a lot there. TJ said "**** it, we're playing everyone" and it worked for the two games against Baylor.I think we will see everyone come conference tournament time. Agreed. King is much better facing the basket.I like King shooting the short corner jumper and if he's knocking down threes like he's been (probably not likely), he becomes highly efficient on offense. He's best though sitting in the short corner while guards drive and he can receive the pass for a dunk or layup. When he tries to go back to the basket, things don't bode well for him.
It's about trust too. If you can't trust him to stay out of foul trouble that also affects game week prep and planning.I think he's he's improperly utilizing a couple of players but on a much (much) smaller scale. Pavs is one of the worst players in the Big 12 and really shouldn't see the floor. TJ did an excellent job in keeping him on the bench against KU. The other is Watson who I think should play a little bit more, especially when defense and length are paramount. I've said before and will say again I think TJ missed an opportunity in not playing Watson over Pavs in the non-con as Pavs was NEVER going to be an integral piece on this team.
Last year I'd say Pavs would never play meaningful minutes but I never though Rob had it in him to get to where he has. So I won't say never but will say it's not very likely.
