STFU Clayborn

If Clayborn is as fat-*** as he was last year, he'll never run into KO in the NFL.
AC being so fat has set him up as a starter as a rookie in a short preseason. Can only hope that KO becomes as fat as AC is so he can be successful too, right?

AC trolled, and CyclONE Nation swallowed the bait whole. Big props to AC here.

But can he do it game in and game out? Will he have the stamina to do it all season long?

Talent has never been clayborn's issue. Stamina has. It is one thing to look great in limited play in preseason games and another to do it all season long in the NFL.

BTW- Tampa Bay was second to last in sacks last year and 28th in rush defense. I would hope that he could crack the starting lineup. Their DL was not good

So you do care a little then, huh?

:jimlad:

I don't care at all. I didn't even know he had said/tweeted that till someone posted it here. Both sides of this rivalry have fans that need to worry more about their own team than making a big deal out of what 1 former player who likes to talk a lot of smack said. I don't read Hawkeye message boards and I usually pass over most articles on websites that involve the Hawkeyes because I really don't care to waste my time reading about a team I don't cheer for.

Just as Blythe trolled and there was a thread just like this one over on HawkeyeNation.com. He even had numerous Hawkeye fans respond back with unintelligent thoughts...

Those are all legitimate questions...

and ones that only time will address. I would say fans on both sides need to step back a bit. Did Clayborn have a sub-par 2010 when compared to 2009? Obviously, yes. No, numbers aren't everything when it comes to d-linemen, but Clayborn didn't have as big an impact in 2010 as he did in 2009. It was almost impossible for him to repeat the 2009, unless he was a talent the equal of a Suh, which he was not. Doesn't mean he isn't very talented, but he's not a Suh. Numerous times last year where Clayborn beat his man right off the ball but the ball was gone quickly or the play went away from him. Conversely, in 2010 he got sacks where good coverage forced the ball to be held for a count or two extra and he ends up running into a sack by Clayborn.

My guess is Clayborn is a good, not spectacular, player in the NFL. He'll be a good 4-3 end in the NFL, be solid against the run and solid rushing the passer. In a given year where he runs into a few coverage sacks, he might get 10+. But other years where he won't. His stamina will be fine since TB won't ask him to play every snap like he was asked to do at Iowa. No d-linemen are asked to play 70-80 snaps a game in the NFL like Clayborn did last year at Iowa.

It was a joke because you said you "could care less" and I was saying....ah nevermind. It was a joke. I know you don't care....but you used the phrase wrong...

Blythe wouldn't do that. He is a mature and respecting individual with class!

Clayborn did have a worse year last year, but he wasn't terrible. A lot of Clayborn's struggles last year had to do with our coverage, mostly from the linebackers, being so poor. I saw Clayborn whip his man right after the snap, but having no chance to get to the QB because he had a wide open outlet to throw the ball to.

Here's where I disagree with you. I don't think that he has the pass rush skills to be a good 4-3 DE. Now, put him at 3-4 DE and you may have something. IMO the wrong team drafted him. We'll see if I'm right in 4 years.

I did. I have watched that game over and over and over. clayborn only got pressure when he stunted. That was it.

The guy is a freaking editor of a website. That is it. You came on and claimed he was an NFL scout. He isn't. He never has been and never will be. He is jon miller for the Tampa Bay Bucs. That is it. It isn't our fault that you are to lazy or ignorant to research the guy you are claiming is an NFL scout. My opinion on clayborn is just as biased as the editor of Buc Nation.

Yep, I missed that. I read it and figured it was a scout. Lazy or ignorant? Probably a little of both. Or a lot. I still think the guy was right on with his assessment of that matchup and that game, and that people on here claiming KO got the best of Clayborn in 2010 are kidding themselves. But you're right, there was probably a bias there and he wasn't the source I thought he was.

Nicely played.

Well, I watched the GAMES. Isn't that good enough? And I watched that matchup in particular...especially since there wasn't a lot worth watching on the ISU end of things. 2009, KO dominated. 2010, I thought it was a tie. Clayborn getting dominated in the NFC South was hyperbole...in the same vein as Clayborn's twitter comments. Heck, they wouldn't even line up against each other most likely because KO is a guard in the pros. I'm not saying Clayborn sucks...there's no shame in playing KO to a tie as he's an early 2nd round pick at worst next spring.

I'm not the one claiming that the Bucs guy was an NFL scout and taking his word as gospel. He says that Clayborn dominated that game and I question the source since it is his job to play up his team's draft choice. Maybe you are taking things a little too seriously?

Yep. See above.

In 2010, Clayborn got quite a bit of pressure. But not against KO. As mentioned a few times, he got pressure when we stunted, and he was going against the guard. He didn't get any kind of consistent pressure when going head-to-head on KO.

In 2009, we didn't stunt against KO, and he pretty much shut Clayborn down. Which is part of the reason that he's a 1st round caliber lineman.

I never caught the Blythe thing. What'd he say?

No big surprise that HN went off the deep end, whatever it was.. I don't know how anyone could stand the posters over there.

It was something like: "Stanzi just got his receiver lit up right there. #Loveit"

That's not an exact quote, but it was along those lines.

@AJaClay That Pitt game should be a good one! All the others will be cake! I mean we are the only university in the state!

I think that everyone should ease up on Adrian. Clearly he doesn't understand that ISU and UNI are in Iowa. It's unlikely that he realizes UI is in Iowa and I doubt he could find Iowa on a map anyway.

I applaud UI for allowing individuals with mental challenges to play on their football team. We could all learn something from KF; the challenged can contribute and even thrive if given a chance to do so.

Ah, thanks. I was hoping for something a little more humorous by itself. There were several times that Stanzi did that though, so I'll bet it was pretty truthful at the time

I think maybe you were trying a tad too hard on this one, weR.
