Steve Prohm releases statement

We should have a separate thread about the value of Prohm's house. :) I think Zillow has it at 750k range, which to me is more reasonable considering there are no mountains or ocean views. We are talking about Ames, IA people. I graduated from ISU and lived there for 5 years.

When did you live here? I agree that the idea of a million dollar house in Iowa seems insane (though when you compare it to a $5mm home in the Bay Area...). But lots in Story Co are expensive enough that it’s tough to get a new house for under $400k. There are definitely houses moving in the $800k-$1mm range. Zillow tends to be pretty detached from the actual market.

Yeah I believe you. Just my personal opinion I suppose.

Las Vegas house is nicer

(Most county assessor records are public information). Took 30 seconds to find this

7 hrs and 2 mins from the bunny ranch

Pretty sure TJ is the buyer for this pending house. COTZ and the Albaugh/Loutch families are close and this is a home on their private golf course
That would be a 25 minute commute. Better than Green's from Cedar Falls or Blount's from Fort Collins.

If the Otz's wants to be a member at any club in Ankeny. Allison will bring an Albaugh or Loutsch with her and be admitted that second
Day 1 change - paint over the "Iowa" basketball hoop
Day 2 change - recreate the bedroom that has a Spongebob stuffed animal and Trump 2020 flag (assuming that TJ didn't specifically ask to keep that setup within the purchase agreement)

It's such an Iowan thing of me to think "why live Ankeny, you want to be close to your office, etc"

But i checked both addresses shared and the Google map times listed for his home in Vegas to his bball office is only 4 mins difference....open road vs Vegas traffic.

Think he'll get an apartment in Ames to avoid winter travel on 69 or 35?

One of the most expensive homes in Phoenix is owned by an ASU professor. Those of you that think professors don't make a lot don't know reality. They have more side deals than coaches and they don't need to report them.
Given how much money you think college professors make and how little work they do, you ought to consider a career shift and get on the gravy train by becoming a college professor. Here's what you can look forward to---if you have a bachelor's degree you probably have 5-7 years of graduate school to complete a terminal degree, depending on your academic discipline a few more years as a post doc, and then you can get your first job, as an assistant professor. After six years and good work you might receive tenure and after another five to ten years, you might be promoted to professor. So, if you start graduate school in the fall you can expect to be the top of your career around 2038 to 2040. Positions at research universities are comparatively rare, so you will probably find a position at a community college or regional university. You will have a grad assistant if you can secure external funding for this person. You will be able to attend conferences or meetings if you pay your own way, because travel money is such that fully-funded trips are rare. You might be able to do consulting, but that depends on your academic discipline and your national reputation, which will result to a great extent from your record of publication and research. So, you better plan on spending nights and summers doing research in a lab and writing peer-reviewed articles and books so as to build a solid H index and I-10 index. Until you reach the rank of professor, it is likely you will do virtually no consulting. And, by the way, you will not receive end of the year bonuses, holiday gifts, you won't attend holiday parties paid for by your employer, you likely will pay for your own parking, receive no equipment beyond your first year as a faculty member, and you won't have an expense or entertainment account. You can count on annual raises of zero to one percent at public institutions determined by the state legislature. How would you like to have Jack Whitver or Brad Zaun determine your annual raise? So, undoubtedly there is a faculty member who owns a fabulous house in Phoenix, but my experience of more than 40 years in higher education, including eight years at ASU, is what I described above. The life of a faculty member has tremendous intrinsic benefits, but I don't believe I ever talked with colleagues who said that they got into higher education because of the monetary rewards.

I honestly was thinking through that...BUT, not sure how much during recruiting he'd use the DM airport? Also, my guess, it'd be easier to just get the Hilton Garden Inn on "retainer"in the event he REALLY didn't want to drive or whatever....or slumby at JP's house..they are best friends, remember? (jimlad)

I know Prohm's home now is a straight shot north on S. Dakota/N.Dakota (maybe a 10 min drive?) and that'd be more appealing to me...BUT, it's not on a golf course, etc. I also honestly don't have a clue how much the head coach is expected to be away from Ames, events, etc.

Ames traffic joke here, but honestly you can get out of town to HWY 30 real quick from Sukup and not having to go through town and depending on where he could have looked in the Ames area, may actually be further to be near Ames (if that makes sense)

Good situation for TJ and Alison

Closer to DSM to go out and be bothered less

Don’t have to run into Ames townies telling you they tried your burger at Applebee’s

Golf course

Gets to rub elbows with other rich people

Yeah...the outliers are usually tied to something like patents, administrate duties, or in a field that has some additional opportunity to get grants/research dollars...but yeah, out the gate (which as you explained takes some time) not a shoe in for the average adjunct sociology professor.

It took my wife 25-30 minutes to get from downtown to our home in WDM (13 miles) in rush hour pre-pandemic. Setting the cruise on 77 going up I-35 from Ames. Probably do that in 22-25 min. Super easy
