Steele Jantz

Jantz is simply not a good QB. He has not been good since he set foot on campus. Hate to say it - we do have to pull out wins despite his play. It was the same way last year. The Tulsa game was not as great as people are making it. 70% of his throws were wide receiver screen/easy passes. We saw how he looks today when he has to make throws at the BCS level.

Good thing you dot know what you are talking about

No one agrees with you.

I think you guys ought to lighten up on Steele. You act like he is the only quarterback in the nation to throw interceptions. I know he made some bad decisions but I think the play calling in the 2nd half got him out of his rhythm. I know Rhoads wants to run the ball but just putting your head in the sand and calling run plays when they are not working has to be part of the conversation

I blame the playcalling in the 2nd, not Jantz

This.

In the first half we did a lot of moving Jantz with boots etc. The second half was a heavy dose of zone read. I think he's a good qb, but a bad zone read qb.

Well, I think we see exactly what we get between SJ and JB. SJ can make a special play or two, but still cannot run the zone read well at all and his two INT were horrible. The INT at the end near the end zone was simply awful, stupid decision. That crap will lose us a lot of games.

JB makes the run game go much better, but does not have the throwing ability.

idk, just lucky to get the win with such poor QB play over last 3 Q.

At least we don't have VDB, or his receivers.

Thank God for Jake Knott, Wally Burnham and our DDDDD!!!!!!

Agree completely with this. SJ made several terrible decisions on the zone read that I don't think JB would have made. If he wants the job, he has to make up for it by hitting the deep passes that he missed today and/or not making the stupid interceptions. I'd stick with SJ for now, but if he doesn't improve his play, I'd switch to JB.

Anyone also see on our last off series that I believe Horne was WIDE open. Could of sealed the game there.

People calling for a quarterback change are ******* idiots. Did he make a couple boneheaded decisions? Yes. Iowa State has never had a quarterback who didn't.

It didn't matter who the quarterback was in the second half. Barry Sanders of 15 years ago could've been the running back and it wouldn't have mattered. Mess was absolutely terrible calling plays the majority of the second half. It's disgusting how predictable we are, especially on 3rd and short.

If we run the zone read two times in a row for zero yards I will freak out

He started today's game 11 of 11. Take out deep bombs at end of 1st half, he only has 3 incompletions in entire half. Today, he still managed to complete 2/3 of his throws, he's still the guy

I think Jantz played really well the first half after all he started what 11/11. Iowa played their typical keep everything short and we gashed them for lots of yards until we ultimately gave them the ball once we got to the red zone (this has just got to stop). Of course I was watching in a bar and couldn't see real well, but it appeared that Iowa made the decision, in the second half, to play tight and lots of men in the box and we couldn't handle the tight coverage. There were lots of chances to stretch the defense running long but Jantz threw long or missed the open reciever. I believe these were all with the wind but I'm not sure. He will have to show we can make some deep passes or we will get pressed all year and that will be tough to counter.

The problem today was not Jantz. We moved the ball very well in small chunks early, but then had like 4-5 long pass incompletions that just completely destroyed our tempo. I understand the idea but with the wind today, was that really the way to call the play at that point?

Great D. Running backs need to hold onto the ball. James White with 2 fumbles, 1 that was pretty stupid (when he tried tossing it to Jantz). Steele's 2nd pick was bad, the most forced play from him so far this year. But we should never have had a 7 yard play there. 1st and goal at the 3, we get a yard, 2nd and 2. Why would we run zone read from the shotgun? Run it up the gut at least 1 more down.

At first I also thought White tried to toss it to Steele, but after watching it again, he never really had a hold of the ball.

Hate to say it, but I feel that his 20 yard run was pure luck. That play could have really been borked.

That play could have been "borked", but Jantz made it happen. Was it luck when he stepped up in the pocket? Was it luck when he broke a tackle? If so, everything done on the football is luck...

That being said, we need to run the ball North-South and cut back on some of the zone reads. Too many times our RB's broke outside and were running sideline to sideline 3 yards behind the los.

Is he still the guy to lead this team? I don't think I am in favor of a QB change now, but I think it warrants questioning.

He was on fire to start the game, but that second half gave me flashbacks to last year. He needs to take what the D gives him, and stop forcing things.

YES, he's the guy to lead the team! Good gawd.

And what exactly do you mean, by "take what the D gives him".
