Steele Jantz JUCO QB

When Sam Bradford was a freshman, I seem to recall that Stoops brought in a juco QB--simply for competition and insurance. I think SB turned out okay.
We also were recruiting Sam Bradford. We would have had him, but OU offered him late and he went there. I hope Jantz comes in for competition and maybe wins the job, but i don't think Tiller will be our starter after every thing is said and done.
Do we know if he can be here for spring ball?
A QB coming in the fall and winning the job seems unlikely.

Some kids lose athletic ability when they add 50-60 lbs. Ask any S&C coordinator. If they didn't, we would have pumped ARob up to 260. Adrian Peterson would be coming in at 310. It's common sense.

Apparently our coaches aren't convinced that anybody on our roster is the answer either, speaking of cripes. If they think he can help I'm all for it.
Steele Is a guy who has the size and ability to play safety if QB doesn't work for him here. Its a win win for the coaching staff to bring in guys like this, No brainer. bringing in a JUCO automatically breeds competition at QB. He turns out to be our number 1 option, win. Capello and Barnett continue to develop. He gets beat out, win, we are thin at safety and this kid has the frame to play there.
Also for the record, I think we have talented guys in Capello, Barnett, and incoming Richardson. But they are all raw, and you just have to have insurance for that. Any coaching staff in the country wants their team to be competitive as soon as they possibly can.
Tiller can also improve his game and solidify a position, however Tiller is a selfless guy, and if he needs to move to WR, I dont think he will have a problem with it.

I have to agree with ISUClones33. This guy is not Cam Newton or he wouldn't had to walk-on at Hawaii. I believe CPR has done a great job of recruiting and we have have talent at the QB spot that will compete this spring. I believe Steely is insurance because Tiller will end up at receiver and he gives us a 3rd QB and the ability to redshirt Richardson and he could play another position if he is talented enough. Also, before we have a JUCO QB orgasm, he redshirted at Hawaii then transferred after only 3 semesters. So, I question his desire to compete. He was a 3rd string walk-on at Hawaii and transferred, so will he he truly come in and compete with the D-1 recruits that we already have on our roster? I hope he will come in and compete. However, I don't give much credit to his game experience because I also believe there are many highly touted high school programs that can compete in the community college conference that he is playing in now. I wish him luck.
I don't think it's fair to speculate that he wasn't willing to work at Hawaii so he went JuCo. It seems like he was under recruited as a QB because teams wanted him as a safety, hence the walk on at Hawaii.
Since he was a walk on, Hawaii probably already had QB's lined up for the foreseeable future, hence limiting the PT for a kid who needed to work on his QB skills. Going JuCo was probably a great opportunity for the kid to get some reps and really improve as a QB. If he was raw coming out of HS, sitting at 3rd string behind full ride QB’s at Hawaii isn't going to get him the work he needs to get to his full potential. He seems to be lighting it up at JuCo and seems to have the athletic ability to play multiple positions. I think bringing him in is a win/win/win situation. If he is good enough to take over as the starter, win. If he is able to be a quality seasoned backup to whomever does start, win. If he gets beat out by multiple other QB’s in the system he can move to safety or WR or wherever, win.

In all seriousness though, this team NEEDS a quality quarterback that smells blood when he's in the red zone. They left waaay too many points on the board this year (and the year before that, etc).
Actually, Iowa State had one of the best redzone offenses in the nation up until AA got hurt.

For the recruiting junkies out there, it is never a bad idea to have recruiting ties to CCSF. I'm really encouraged and surprised at how well ISU is doing in California whether it be high school or CC. Great job by CPR and staff once again.
