Steele Jantz JUCO QB

Unless we improve everywhere else on offense, another quarterback isn't really going to help. His "highlight" film isn't terribly impressive. His receivers seemed to be decent; maybe we should be offerring some of them scholarships.

I don't think us Recruiting a quarterback has anything to do with no confidence in Tiller. I think the staff has plenty of confidence in in Jerome, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't take someone who has talent. I mean does bringing Standard in mean the staff has no Shontrelle? No it means you take talent when you are able to, regardless of the position.

You do not waste a scholarship on a JUCO QB to sit on the bench. Maybe they will change his position but I doubt it.

Yeah he walked on and wasn't able to do anything at Hawaii but he left there and has had some success and I'm sure improved a lot. That's what Juco does to players.

There are no trades in college football. Even if the staff is confident in Tiller as the starter and Capello and Barnett as backups, you might want depth to have another quarterback who is more experienced and can play right away and let the underclassmen develop.

If Barnett and Capello don't turn out to be amazing at such an early point in their career (which you can't just expect, while it would be awesome if they were good early) you need a backup plan. Because then you are one injury away from playing a Sophomore or Freshman QB who isn't really ready.

I disagree completely (assuming the QB is measurably better than the returning QBs).

There is no position on the field that is as key to the success of the team than the QB position. It is by far the most important position on the field. Now, a better QB only obviously isn't going to suddenly make us 12-0, but a good QB could definitely be the difference between a 5-7 and a 7-5 team. That is a major difference.

I would not say it's by far the most important position on the field. A great D-end can completely change a defense.
I'm confused about this as well considering how much we still need on the defensive side of the ball.

He is the kid in the pic we were trying to figure out.

Funny thing about him is the information I found on the SJSU board from the mod:

[FONT=verdana, arial]Talked with his former high school coach and also Steele's father.

They described him as a great young man, a leader who inspires others, that he landed at CCSF through a contact from one of Hawaii's coaches, no hard feelings about Hawaii wanting him to play safety, that Steele's younger brother is backing him up at CCSF...

The arm, the foot speed are all first rate. Because he doesn't have a lot of experience playing college football as a QB, his recognition of defenses, etc. is is probably the area he needs to work on the most but that just takes more time under the center.

Yep, kind of like Tyler Lorenzen walked on at ISU a few years back, went JUCO and ended up as UCONN's starting QB and led them to a bowl victory.

This. I have been screaming for a JUCO spread offense QB ever since Herman got here. We need one to let Barnett and Capello have time to get better. And you are right i didn't mention Tiller, because i don't think he is our QB for the future. Let a JUCO come in for 2 years and run the show, then go to Barnett, Capello or Richardson.

100% agree.
