Statistically what went wrong last night

Sounds good...Num1 is getting the chance to name the three guys on current ISU roster that we are sending to the offensive glass, no matter who the opponent is...Ready, Set, Go!

We obviously don't have them. I think Lucca has the size to be a rebounder, but for some reason he can't do it.

On an unrelated note, any word on how the team is doing with this losing streak? Losing breds anger which leads to players being unhappy which leads to players bolting at the end of the season, which leads to more losing. I really wish that the team could finish the year off strong and actually have some good feelings going into next year.

Lucca does not jump well...Everything I hear, we get along very well...A lot closer team than in the past under Mac.

How many guys on this team can out jump KSU for an offensive rebound? And who are they? With Clarke and/or WJ, I would agree.

Well, BP is probably a better rebounder than he his at stopping a fast-break/layup attempt. I think that Boozer has been able to stick his head in for some rebounds. JVB, Hamilton, CB could all be crashing the boards instead of running back for defense.

You're right, though--I'm not seeing much, either. I'm also not seeing other ways this team will generate offense, and what we've been doing isn't working (especially on the road). This just further emphasizes how poorly recruiting went last year.

Boozer - I'll give you...
Hamilton - Can't get the jump ball at the beginning of the game...Is he fast enough to get back after fighting for the rebound?
CB - Definitely capable...Invites the over the back call (Is it worth it?)
JVB - Send him flying in from the 3 point line?
Petey - Don't like his defense, get in there and rebound at 6ft

Just pointing some stuff out that comes to my mind...

Why don't we just play the same style we played when our lineup was Tinsley, Horton, Nurse, Johnson, and Fizer??? That style worked...and we beat seven top 25 teams that year!...which we never do now.:jimlad:

Hamilton - Can't get the jump ball at the beginning of the game...Is he fast enough to get back after fighting for the rebound? Why is he jumping, anyway? If he's fighting for a rebound, at least one opponent is with him. If he's that slow, he's not stopping any fast breaks, anyway.
CB - Definitely capable...Invites the over the back call (Is it worth it?) He had 4 early anyway. IDK, maybe not worth it.
JVB - Send him flying in from the 3 point line? I guess so.
Petey - Don't like his defense, get in there and rebound at 6ft Unfortunately, he's one of our best weakside rebounders.

I hear ya. I really do. My arguments are pretty weak, but so is this team's offensive production.

It just seems like risk for sending guys is pretty low for the reward of another offensive chance, which we need dearly. I hope we've addressed this with next year's class--seems we should have addressed this last year (even if WJ is still here, we should have recruited another rebounder).

Any other suggestions for some more offense?

Not sure why Ham is jumping instead of CB...I've never asked. Next year we lose Petey, AT, and SH...They are replaced with LA, Gilstrap, Colvin to me it's pretty obvious we will be more athletic. I agree we should have had somebody to back up WJ, but that is the spot where we have been finishing 2nd in recruiting. At the time wasn't a huge concern because WJ was expected to play 30 plus minutes.

Offensive Suggestions...some how, some way we need to find a why to take some pressure off our gaurds...Only way to do that is go by the defender that is up in our shorts.

Don't worry--I don't expect you to ask! I'm not able to ask those questions, and I don't expect any others to, either. I'm just throwinig stuff out on a message board--I'm not expecting it to solve much.

Even if we expected WJ back, did we not need additional help at the 1 or 2? What if WJ would have gotten hurt more seriously (he did have a fractured foot)?

I think your earlier suggestion of Buckley and DG at the same time couldn't hurt. And, it would give him experience--something that we always be claim to be lacking. If we don't get people playing time, how do they get experience? It seems the "young and inexperienced" phrase will be used ad nauseum next year as well. When does a team become "old and experienced"?

(I don't expect you to answer all of those questions!)

or the players on the wing could work to get open and come back to the ball when they see the PG is in trouble. Standing FT-extended and not moving makes it pretty easy to deny the pass...

I just can't imagine a situation in where you need to send four guys as soon as the shot is launched. Even two/three guys should be able to slow it enough if the other guys are hustling back as soon as the rebound is secured. I guess we just weren't confindent enough in our hustle.

Just a FYI about the KSU game...I asked about about this...We were dropping 3(guards) back, but anytime the shot went up and Brackins, JVB, or Ham were around the three point line...It looked like we were dropping 4.
