It seems like people either love the State Fair or hate it...just curious to see the breakdown. If you love it, how many times will you go?

Personally, I love it. I'll be there 3 or 4 times.

Neither. It's alright, I could probably spend an afternoon there, but if I don't make it I'm not heartbroken about it.

Love it! I live in the Quad Cities and this weekend will be taking the kids. Next weekend it will just be the wife and I. Have not missed a fair since 1989.

This is how I feel as well. If its a weekend where I have absolutely nothing going on and its not hotter than hell out, I'll probably go. If it's remotely hot, or if I have anything else going on, I'll probably just wait until next year.

I don't mind it.

My attitude towards it is usually dependent on the weather. Next week looks really nice.

I loved it when I was younger and showed cattle. It is less fun when you just go to walk around and look at stuff. I suppose that part would be more fun if you had kids.

Spent some quality time at the top of the Giant Slide, watching the People of the Fair and the horses and parades and whatever entertainers they had roaming the fair grounds (not to mention G.I. Joe, G.I. Jane, and Sargent HOO-AH! riding down the slide, or Sparky the fire dog loose her head. The crash dummies going down the slide were also personal favorites of mine... Oh and the 99 beauty queens, plus their various escorts and the previous years winner... hmmmm yeah. Good times).

I definitly miss it.

I will agree with this... I used to spend 11 days, all day every day, at the fair (yes, it officially only runs for 10), however I generally only spent 1 afternoon actually walking around the fair/riding rides, and the occasional break checking a few things out (usually on my way to get my obligitory ISU tatoo for the day)

I'd still probably go for a day most years though if I were still in the area

I go about once every 5 years. This is about the number of years it takes me to forget how much I dislike it.

We go every year and take the kids. I was in 4H and often either I or my sisters had a project go to the fair, so we'd been going every year since I was very young.

My husband was not a frequent fair-goer until we started dating. Now he looks forward to it as well. Though, if he can't make it, it's not a big deal, whereas I am fairly bummed if I can't go.

I really enjoyed it. I used to show cattle there, and my brother and I would stay on the grounds at the Youth Inn. Are parents would go home for the evening and we would troll the fairgrounds messing with Carnies. Ever since I moved to Wyoming over 5 years ago I haven't really gotten a chance to go back to the fair. HOWEVER I am leaving WY tonight to come back to Iowa for 10 day, and plan on hitting up the State Fair! I am excited!

I dont understand it. Once you have been there once, you have seen it all. Once you have seen a fat cow or bull you have seen it, once you have seen some butter sculpture you have seen it.

I dont really understand the people who would want to put themselves through the missery of going to that godforsaken thing more than once a year let alone multiple times the same year. Besides not understanding why anyone wants to go multiple times, I dont understand how anyone can afford to go more than once. You have to be a freaking millionaire, it will likely cost me and my family $150 just to go one day, let alone multiple days.

If the state fair went away (and i wish it would) I wouldn't notice one bit. Its probably the most overrated experience known to man. Oooh look pork chops on a stick.....wait they are $7.50 apiece and it would take 3 of them to satisfy me, no thanks I will go with another $8 beer. Words cant explain the hatred I have for that ****hole.

Could care less. I hadn't gone in about 15 years, then before moving to Indiana, my wife and I thought it would be fun to go. It was fun. For about 10 minutes. You can only see so many cows before it gets repetitive. Plus the music acts were That's So Raven then a bunch of country music, and that's not really our thing.

I voted don't care, but I like going but I can skip years in between going. Especially after getting a week of state fair-like crowds on RAGBRAI. Of course without the wife-beaters and mullets.

I think the fact that I grew up on a farm, the fair lost a lot of luster for me. I didn't need to go to one to see animals I saw on a daily basis.
And Mom had a Fry Daddy at home.

I loved it as a kid. Got my picture taken with the General Lee. As a teen, it was a good place to pick up girls. From 17-30, I never went. Lost it's mystique. But now......I have a kid........and we will be at the fair Sunday.
