Star Trek: Discovery

Discovery keeps getting better; I'll stop there to keep from spoiling.

Enterprise was good, season 3 and 4 especially.

I watched the dozen Star Trek Continues episodes last week and this week. Had a lot of buffering issues, so it took a while. Not sure if it is my computer or their server. My laptop is getting a little old and flaky.

Anyway, it is interesting, and actually very well done considering it is basically a fan based production. Obviously they had access to the sets and materials from the original series. The Kirk actor does a very good job of imitating Shatner, the Spock and Bones are okay, and Scotty is played by James Doogan's son. There are a couple actors that are distractingly bad, but the original series had that issue too. Kind of quirky fun to see.

Definitely enjoyed the first half. Got better as the season went along.

I'm wondering if they might be setting up a voyager-esque reboot at the midseason. It would explain how this technology, and this ship, never got mentioned again in future trek

The show picked up right where it left off.

When Dr Culber died, i had a legitimate "holy ****" moment.

Also, Captain Killy!

Wow. This show is great, we are really loving the direction the 2nd half of the season. Can't really say too much more without spoiling some big moments.

Now that I'm all caught up on all my Superhero shows, I'm officially jumping into Star Trek Discovery. I've even primed myself up by watching the entire latest trilogy of movies (Trek, Darkness, Beyond). I love those movies. Truthfully, I'm still somewhat of a Star Trek virgin though beings how all I've ever seen is the latest movies. I've never even watched a single Star Trek TV show, so I'm pretty amped. Hope I'm not disappointed. I've waiting until now to jump in though beings how the season is finally almost done, which means I should be able to wipe the entire season out with the free trial.

I would highly recommend you jump right into Star Trek The Next Generation on Netflix. That series easily stands on it's own with quality. Star Trek Deep Space Nine follows chronologically, and while not my favorite series, is still good. Star Trek Voyager was quite good as well.

I'd caution that TNG takes awhile to find its footing. There's some cringe in that first season.

Start with season 2 or 3. Season 1 has some bad episodes, season 2 is a little better, and season 3 really starts getting good.

Aw BOO!!! Take the bad with the good. I appreciate all the episodes even if some of them are less spectacular. But I am one who hates only watching part of a series. I like the first season because of the background it gives on the characters.

Thanks for the advice on all the historical Star Trek episodes as I honestly would take you guys up on it except for the fact that I've just got too much TV to keep up with without adding in a bunch of Star Trek. One thing I love about the JJ Abrams reboot is how the reboot added a perfect jump-in spot for guys like me without having to play a bunch of catch-up.

I'm not saying don't watch the first season, but its worth being prepared for, it does get better.

I'd say the same about the first season of parks and rec, for instance.

Slowly coming to grips with the fact that I am finally going to break and pay for CBS all access.

It was worth it for Discovery alone. Will be a no doubter with this Trek series along with it. I did cancel once the season was over.

They also have a new Twilight zone series in development that sounds promising.

O/U on how many episodes it takes before John de Lancie (Q) appears? I’m guessing he’ll be in the first episode, but 3 is the absolute max I think it would take. I’m pretty sure in the finale for TNG Q told Picard that this wasn’t his final mission (or something along those lines). Now I’m going to have to rewatch TNG.

If they ever take all of their series off of Prime it will probably get me to subscribe once in a while.

I rewatched TNG on Prime and watched TOS and DS9 straight through filling in the gaps of the few episodes I had never seen. Over the course of probably 4-5 years. To be honest DS9 is much more binge inducing than the others. Someday soon I'll start Voyager.

DS9 is the best Star Trek IMO. Such a great series; great characters and the Doninion War story line. TNG is a fairly close second in my book. The rest are significantly behind.
