Whats the deal with those helmets? Are they to help lesson concussions?

More so to disperse the force at the point of impact during large and small collisions resulting in reduced long and short term head injuries.

Never seen these before this year. Are they new? Any chance we will see some derivative of these in real games?

Supposed to limit impact of small and large collisions. With all the talk of making the game safer I wouldn't be surprised if we started to see more these new style helmets surfacing in actual games.

Occasional Alternate helmet (new updated swirl/twister logo needs to be adopted as secondary logo, IMO). This is a better pic. Put center gold stripe on red helmet, red stripe on gold helmet, to match above primary uni's.

Alternate uni's: To be announced, or 'whatever'. Enough variations/combinations above to last awhile, make things interesting...

I think most of us agree that the "I-State" logo is here to stay. I am in favor of the updated "swirl/twister" (from amestoplease, I believe) as a "secondary logo". As of now, it is not an official secondary logo. A couple of others are 'official' but I don't think they are nearly as good. I'm hoping the new staff will see some light here.

Everyone hates that logo because of the "Criner Era" but I freaking love it.

The hockey team brought back the 90s era jerseys with that logo. Sharp as hell.

I bought a Cyclone Hockey jersey at the mall as I was leaving town and starting my life. Picked up the white jersey for $20 on clearance.

Before the arguing kicks in- fans of the twister logo are not suggesting we re-brand or replace the block I-STATE logo. We want it as a secondary logo.

i think the I state logo is our logo. I think it's a great primary logo, but I hate having the swirly logo as our secondary. It's looks terrible and it's a bird in a blender.

Bring back lack the real twister logo. We are the Cyclones, not a half Cardinal half tornado.

A few more supporters of the updated swirl/twister secondary logo

I really like the idea of a simple tornado like this. If you look at all the best known programs, they all have a simple logo. Not their name, not a super detailed birdnado, and I prefer not using text/letters. I think the one above (without the old school Iowa State text) is on par with the Texas Longhorn, Michigan State Spartan, and other simple, iconic logos.

I don't think anyone is proposing replacing the I State logo, just adding the cyclone as a secondary, like Oklahoma State. They have OSU as their primary and Pistol Pete as their secondary.

If the I-State were a stencil it would be simple, but in my opinion, anything two toned is not considered simple for a helmet logo. If the I-State were a simple stencil, I think it would look great as a helmet logo; also, as I've said before, we can keep the current two-toned I-State logo as our primary logo used in marketing and on the middle of the field and court, but use a secondary logo (tornado) on our helmets.

What i think is very interesting is that on the Red helmet above, I like the changes in the color of the logo (w/ the RED helmet). I think the the most important difference is the 'block I', which is gold/yellow, and it only has a 'very subtle' light shade red border. I looks fantastic on the Red helmet. The "I" stands out! Makes it look "classic". I also like how the Red in 'State' w/ a yellow border, also makes the Yellow "I" stand out more.

If we went w/ Gold helmets, you could switch this again. The block "I" would be Red (like it is now), making it stand out on the gold helmet. The yellow border on the "I" would just very lightly contrast w/ the Gold helmet color. It would be identical to the current logo, but ONLY for a Gold lid.

So I guess what I'm saying is, keep the current "I-State" logo, but be willing to flip the color, depending upon whether it is on a Red/Cardinal lid, or a Gold lid. For what it's worth, I like the ability to change the color of the helmets from time to time, to mix up the color scheme a bit.

And, add the secondary, updated 'swirl/twister' logo, to occasionally change things up a bit more.

Lastly, some have said they like the "stenciled" I-State logo; this is not new, as we have done it already. I'm in favor of this, on OCCASION, as well, but it is only my opinion. I think the suggestion above (the I-State logo on the red helmet, w/ the color flip-flop) would look better, and mitigate some of the complaints others have had of the current I-State logo not looking good on the Red helmet, because of the severe two-tone nature of it.

After all, this is one of my secondary choices for uni's, note the stencil logo. Looks great...

Now we have something that is better, IMO. We have multiple uniform options/colors, and we keep/use the current "I-State" logo, but are flexible enough to be able to vary the color scheme on that logo when wearing the RED helmet. We adopt the secondary "swirl/twister" logo on the helmet, occasional use only, at coaching staff's/players discretion (or use it anywhere else for that matter), whenever we want to use it. The "I-State" logo remains primary.

Notice the Prominent 'I' in "I-State" in all three. It defines the 'I' better, especially on the RED helmet, which we currently use.

No, they have been in use at Toledo for three / four years.

That white helmet is a must...no clue why we haven't used it..makes the logo pop so much better...also,that real gold helmet with CY in it is bad ***! That would rock.

I also love the white helmet. I haven't seen that pic with the chrome/cardinal face mask. That looks sharp!

I assume these are some kind of shell or covering for the regular helmet, not all new helmets.

If our Clones win the game, I don't care what they're wearing . . . (well, only thongs might open us up to ridicule). I've got my preferences like everyone else here, but, heck, I just don't really care as long as the players and coaches like what the team is wearing.

Really, I don't care. (I don't much like white helmets, but if the team wants to wear 'em, yeah. And if you notice, Toledo used a lot of white, including helmets. That might be a clue.)

I like these too. We'll see. What I've learned from many of these past uniform threads, is that what we like or want, even the coaches, perhaps, may not be what we can or will ultimately get. The represented color above, with the deeper red and the golder 'gold' may not be possible, either from an elective point of view, or from a manufacturing, school accessory sales, color availability, etc., point of view.

Also, while 'we' or some of us may like the "Trice" stripes in there somewhere, others have said in the past, that Nike would never do that for us, for whatever reason. Who knows.

That's why I have kind of gravitated to the design I've posted the most, recently. I think it is realistically doable. That design has the 'Trice' stripes built into the chest and back region of the jersey, also. But as I said, that might be something they cannot do. I don't know. It also has the Nike emblem on it, so it may be somewhat more official, but I have no idea who did the design, or how far it will go.
