Sounds from the Crowd Today - Denver Edition

I learned a rule nuance yesterday. I didn't realize that on a flagrant you get both technical shots even if the shot is made. I expected Monte was going to be shooting one after the flagrant 1 rather than two. Talk about a huge possession, ISU got 6 points on that trip - Monte lay up, Monte FTs and Abdel FTs.

That flagrant was the right call but the rule itself bothers me. Nader got one earlier in the year for grabbing some guy's shorts instead of just shoving him into the upright or something. It just seems odd to penalize people more when they foul in a way that isn't going to hurt the opposing player.

A shove in the back with no attempt at the ball should be treated the same way. I can't remember which game yesterday, but someone got a flagrant 1 for grabbing a player's foot while flat on the floor while the player was trying to get away after stealing the ball. The whistle prevented a fast break basket (fouled player was still able to make pass ahead) so it was a good call. Really wasn't dangerous but didn't reward the team that was beat with a common foul that negates a fast break bucket.

Re: Sounds from the Crowd Today - Denver Addition

There's always one. There was at the Emerald Coast Classic, our family was laughing about it.

Never fails. I've sen one at every ISU bowl game I've been to, every BIG 12 tournament I've been to and just about everywhere else they have no business being. They're like the plague.

If you met my brother you wouldn't care what he was wearing. He's awesome. And if the roles were reversed I would have wore my ISU gear to an Iowa game.

Wear a damn red shirt, a gold shirt (not Iowa logo). Even a generic shirt of no particular school color, but no, an Iowa shirt at an ISU game when the hoks aren't involved is not "awesome".

We had a group of local guys sitting in front of us who had briefcases and tons of notes. I thought they were scouts. Nope. Just guys who have an elaborate system of betting that requires them to keep detailed stats during the games. They were really fun.

Funny. I felt that he should have had 3 FTs. 1 for the and-1, and 2 for the flagrant. Why should he lose one of the flagrant FTs just because he made the shot?

If he misses the shot, does he just get the 2 FTs he would normally get for missing the shot? Doesn't seem right.

Doesn't seem right? Seriously? We got the 2 points plus 2 free throws plus possession of the ball. What isn't right about that? That's pretty powerful.
