This is going to have the biggest impact on what kids in the state are going to support and cheer for. A majority of them will follow whatever their parents are into. It's the fringe fans (transplants from other states coming here for work) that can still be swayed, and one week or one year isn't going to do that for an entire generation.
I think your percentage is probably pretty accurate, and I would attribute success as a big part of that. This is a Cyclone message board. I have no doubt someone will probably respond to this post with some anger, but the truth is most loyal Cyclone fans have that loyalty for a reason. They have a tie to the University. They either graduated from there or grew up with parents who did or have some sort of connection. There's a lot of Hawkeye fans, Tavern Hoks as many people like to refer to them, who don't have a direct connection with the U of I. They became Hawkeye fans because they enjoyed watching them win. Now, you may think there's something wrong with that, but in my opinion it's not even close to being a bad thing. At least not for the University. The more fans they have the better.
Success is something that creates fans. Especially when you're talking about kids and young adults. They latch on to teams that are winning. Unless they have parents who are really passionate about a specific team often times they will begin to cheer for a team who is having success. Maybe they like a coach. Maybe they like a specific player. For me, growing up I loved watching Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Jerry Rice. I was a small town Iowa boy who became a 49ers fan because of the success they were having. I've been a 49ers fan ever since. Am I bandwagon fan because as a boy I enjoyed watching the Niners win? I don't think so. I've stuck with them through a lot of rough years as well. It just so happens when I started to become passionate about football they were a team that was having a lot of success and their players seemed like good people to me.
Like it or not, the Hawkeyes having success does win fans over in the state. That's just the way it is.
You have to consider the expectations that were placed upon them. You aren't doing that. They were a top 5 team in the country predicted to battle KU for the conference title. Whether you admit it or not the way things have started is rough.
No offense, but you must be old. Last 20 years ISU has owned the basketball world.
It's disappointing they are pretty much out of the Big 12 title race this early in the season but to say it's a tough time being a Cyclone right now is just being dramatic. I'd rather get hot in March and make a run anyways.
If we win tonight like we're predicted to is tomorrow now a good time to be a Cyclone? Some fans need to look at the big picture and we're we are as a program right now and not decide how good or bad we are from game to game
I predicted 3 losses by now so they're only one off. Cinci, @OU, @UT. Cinci and UNI cancel out, only one I was off by Baylor. I'm happy with where they are, on pace with last year's 12-6 and 2nd in the conference and hopefully win at Tech to go +1.
Unfollowed all of the DSM media except Murphy/Peterson/Birch a while ago. Life is much better. Stopped watching Soundoff years ago...life is much better.

Iowa hasn't been to the Sweet 16 since what, 1999? The one previous to that was 1988? I was born in 1987 so they've been to 2 in my life and ISU has been to 3 and the Elite Eight once. Iowa's best seeds are 3, 5, 6, 7, 7 ISU's are 2, 2, 3, 3, 5.

Andy is the classic front runner. He was giving us all sorts of love all offseason, because we were being pumped as a final 4 team and top 5 team by the national media. Now we lose a couple games, and he jumps on the new flavor of the week the Hawks.
Pretty typical really, and as soon as we beat OU tonight, he will be right back to giving his love to the Clones. There is no reason to get all worked up about this, he is just doing what he does.

Not at all. Look at what ISU has done the last 20 years compared to what Iowa has done.
The Big 10 is loaded with talent but a lot younger this year than in years past. Iowa has 4 seniors in the starting lineup and that has been the difference this year. The Big 10 is a real grind and having senior leadership is a huge bonus. Iowa hasn't had that in recent years. Having a lot of depth helps and I think the ISU loss is what actually forced them to focus on improving mentally and to close out games. That has been an issue for them in the past. It helps that they do have an NBA caliber player in Uthoff.
Michigan State lost some size and talent in the front court. They have size but haven't had consistent play from their guard court..Valentine being injured hasn't helped much but he's an NBA player. Even though they will lose Valentine, they might be better next year. They have some serious talent sitting on the bench in Davis, Clark and Harris. They also have two 5 star and two 4 Star recruits coming in next fall.

Wisconsin lost arguably their best player ever and another NBA draft pick along with a starting guard. Nigel Hayes will be an NBA pick though. Wisconsin has gradually been improving over the course of the season and they might make the NIT. They wont make the NCAAs with 9 losses already.
Michigan is young and they've been without LeVert as of late but they'll be a force to contend with next season. They shoot well and they're long. They're talented but just haven't quite put it all together. They have a couple guys that will play in the NBA.
Ohio State has a lot of talent but chemistry-wise they're a mess. They also have a habit of losing their best players early to the NBA. They're young but if they get turned around, watch out.
Indiana is a works in progress but they do have some good young players. Yogi Ferrell is a tough one to defend but Indiana hasn't been "Indiana" for some time now. They're playing well as of late and I may change my tune when it comes to them eventually.
Purdue and Maryland are going to be really good. Both are young teams with a mix of talented seniors augmented with highly rated youngsters. They'll be very good moving forward. If Purdue can find a backcourt to go along with that super talented front court they have, watch out. Both of these teams have a couple NBA players on their rosters.
Minnesota has help on the way and they're a younger club and rather inconsistent. They're definitely a club that could be doing better but they're in a funk right now. The 2015-2016 version of the Gophers should be much improved and keeping Pitino would be a smart move.
Northwestern, Penn State, Rutgers and Nebraska are an afterthought. Northwestern seems to be the best coached of these teams though and they always have a guy or two that can shoot lights out.
