Soundoff

Good luck on the couple teams...who the heck beats them? Maybe Maryland. Good matchup for them actually. Sure aren't going to lose to those lousy Buckeyes, Gophers, Huskers, Illini, Nittany Lions, or Scarlets. Can't really see Indiana having enough in their front court to do it, either. Better get used to it. The big10 is a lot softer this year.

They always lose a couple they shouldn't.

A fan's nugget or the hosts?

Believe it or not, from Murph & Sears. They were arguing with a couple of fans that thought the Big 12 has tougher teams.

Currently 5 of the 10 teams in the Big 12 are ranked (that may change tomorrow depending on the backlash from our games this past week).

Currently 4 of 14 teams in the Big 10 are ranked (also may change tomorrow depending on where Purdue lands).

Yes. Allfourcy is acting like Iowa may never lose again.

Not saying that, I just don't think much of 80% of the Big Ten, I guess. Sorry, I still don't believe they have a Buddy Hield or an OU/KU/WV type team in that conference. But I'm probably wrong.

If Iowa played Bama in football it would have been 58-0, instead of MSU's 38-0. They have one fake season and lose their only two games against quality opponents. Perfect ending.

According to Sound-off, the Big 10 & Big 12 have identical levels of talent and top teams...so Iowa's schedule won't be any easier than ISU's. Just another nugget from tonight's show.

John Sears has ZERO credibility as a sports reporter in my opinion. He is a devout Hawk fan and that's fine but he can not be impartial in his reporting. Just as I could never be if I were in his shoes.

I realize it will all work itself out in March BUT here goes.....

The B1G is a watered down conference in football and basketball. Any league with an unbalanced schedule is. Nothing compares to the Big 12. But for some reason national pundits just have this unabashed love for the B1G. Has Iowa played well lately? Hell yes. Has Iowa got some timely breaks due to injuries and star players being out? Hell yes. Beat Wichita State without Van Vleet. Beat Mich St without Valentine and with a Valentine that was clearly not himself after the return from surgery. Hold off Michigan with Levert not playing. But somehow these are great wins and they solidify Iowa as a top 10 team. Beating Sparty without Valentine = ISU beating Oklahoma without Hield or KU without Ellis. I have a feeling if Hield happened to get hurt in warmups and ISU won the national media would devalue our win. Blows my mind that Iowa is getting so much credit for beating good teams that are not at full strength.

The last good team Iowa played at full strength was ISU and they lost. But even that fact gets lost in the national narrative. So many pundits are essentially giving Iowa credit for winning at ISU even though they did not because of the collapse that took place. Make no mistakes, Iowa had a lot to do with that collapse - but so did ISU.

Win tonight - win Saturday - win next Monday vs KU (and if that happens you are probably looking at 2 Big Monday takedowns of the #1 team in the country - or at worst 2 takedowns of top 3 teams) and we are right back up the polls. Again, I know the polls don't matter but I just hate the fawning over Iowa and the B1G. Hell, ISU is 2-0 against the B1G this year....

Rant over.

Anybody watching? "Hawk fan Kip" sounds like an idiot. Clearly an Iowa State fan.

If winning is above all, it's kinda funny BOTH Iowa coaches have losing records vs ISU.
Mad Fran's like 1-5, right?

People have to remember this Iowa team lost to Augustana in an exhibition game. They are peaking right now, playing their best basketball of the year, they'll come back down to earth soon enough. Clemson is doing the same thing right now, beating Louisville, Syracuse, Miami, and Duke all in a row, does anyone really think Clemson is a legit basketball team who will finish in the top 3 of their conference or make a final 4 run?

So Iowa will dominate the state, because they have a good football season, and their basketball team plays #1 when they aren't full strength, yet still lost to the instate rival, after leading by 20, and the instate rival is having issues.

Got it.

Excellent post. The only thing I want to comment on is the national media and the BIG. Look at the cities within the BIG footprint. Lots of big time newspapers, lots of AP voters and a lot of states that care about basketball. They are always going to get more favorable press than they deserve....in any sport. Conversely, look at the b12, all the big cities are in Texas, and they have basketball as a second tier sport. There is no question, top to bottom, the b12 schedule is tougher than the b10. Are there some good b10 teams ...yes, but there are a lot of dogs.

keith is a pro IMO, Fales is just there to drive people to call in to their radio show. He loves the fact that Iowa wins games. They talk about doosh faces, look in the mirror Fales.

Keith is getting bitter with his old age. There are times he is hard to listen to anymore. He is still good but when he goes on his rants of ripping on ISU fans making excuses to why they talk Iowa more it gets old. The media in this state will tell you they would rather cover a good team, but it seems they would rather cover anything Iowa and ISU when it is down.
