Now that we've all had a night to sleep on it I wanted to get a feel for where the board is at on Prohm as coach.

Let's keep it much more civil than the game thread. We already have enough to deal with from hawk coworkers, friends, and family today.

Happy thoughts. Its Friday and many of us will be in Orlando in two weeks with a chance at three straight 8 win football seasons.

Rule #1 to create an effective poll - you need to have a "neutral" or "unsure" option. Life is not this black and white .

Prohm's a good guy, great recruiter, great representative of ISU but last night wasn't a fluke. Every year, he's had a handful of games where we just don't show up. . It's tough to say exactly why but I think his struggles are due to one of the following:

A) he isn't a strong X's and O's coach
B) he isn't great at communicating in game changes
C) the players don't follow through with what they're told in game
D) All of the above

There is no excuse for his struggles against Fran, he's been whooped by him 3 times using the same strategy. If not for one of the most talented teams in program history, it would be 4 times. Seeing our guys stand around and chuck horrible 3's against a team with less speed and athleticism is frustrating, its exactly what Fran wants you to do and we play right in to it ever year.

That said, I'm still with him but no tourney this year (which seems possible) and his seat should be hot. No tourney next year and he's out of chances. We're realistically looking at missing the tourney 3/4 years, there is no excuse for that.

Judging anything based off this season is going to be tough for me. With what we lost last year, I had no hope this season was going to be anything special, so losing last night really doesn't surprise me. That being said, I still want to see improvement as the season goes on, and if we continue to play like we did last night into February and March, my feelings might change.

So many ways to judge CSP... By a game, a possession, an in bounds play, a rebound... Or by visible development through a year, conference tourney championships, NBA players, recruiting...

His teams have always played hard - not always smart but always hard. Last night was just off in every fashion.

One thing I'd love to see is roster continuity over a few seasons. Mentioned elsewhere but Wiggs should be on the floor but he made a different choice. Zion should have developed SOMETHING. Lewis tries so hard but only on half the floor. TH is not a "leader" but will be an all-time great in his short stint with us.

This is just going to have to be a year where if you like the coach and you respect what he's done you find other ways to justify your support and faith. If you are one of the haters, this will be a year where every mistake is amplified to support the "he sucks" mantra.

Sssssooooo basically like every other year.

yes, every year he has a handful of bad games. Name a coach that doesn’t. NAME ONE.

I'm seeing people posting this but not understanding how you can say that without knowing the impact the 2020 freshman class has or if we bring in an elite grad transfer (recent history says no but seems like we host 1 every spring). Just seems a little premature

You're okay with rebuild seasons 2/3 years? You don't think this is a perennial NCAA tourney program? You see any way this team is better next year with TH?

that wasn’t the point I was arguing.

The inconsistency in his teams' performances takes years off my life. We'll drop some game at home we should never lose in a million years, and then with our backs against the wall we'll go on the road and beat a conference title contender. We feel like we're back on track and then we sleepwalk again. We show toughness at times and wilt at others.

People complain about stubbornness with rotations and starters and I'm coming around to that critique myself. I always felt like the way he handled Lard was just so...weird. All the talk of "habits," never declaring whether he was suspended or not, not playing him when he wasn't suspended. I'm sure Lard was mostly at fault, but if Prohm was sending the same mixed signals to Lard that he sent to the public I can see why Lard would get frustrated. And if that happens to one player, it's not hard to imagine it happening to more.

What isn't helpful is for this to devolve into a pile-on, which I'm in danger of doing myself. So I'll shut up now.

I think the freshman will be good but none of them bring what this team will lack, especially without TH. This team will need a dead eye 3pt shooter, a competent PG and someone to replace the 20ppg TH will be leaving behind. PG is the only role possibly filled by that class. The only way this team improves is with a stud GT, like a Deandre Kane type of impact. Obviously Tyrese's decision changes all of that.

so you dont like campbell either b/c he's 0-4
Football is different, imo, as I view the football teams programs on the same level, with maybe an Iowa lean. I’m basketball, we should be light years ahead of them based off our recruiting, and them having Fran as a coach. But still, that lunatic has still out coached us 3.5 times out of the last 5 years. I can only think of one time where Ferentz out coached us during Matt’s tenure, and that was Matt’s first year.

Having a coach share his private conversations with a player about substance abuse with the fan base?
