Something to discuss.....

I don’t know. I honestly didn’t even know that happened. I was standing up alone with my hands on my head in section 12 trying to gather myself watching Breece clearly take that hard. The play happened right in front of us.
I saw on the replay that the side judge (who would have been in front of you) was standing over a flag. Never heard what he called or if he just picked it up like usual. He is the one who calls false starts and offsides.

Their defense and special teams is top 10. Their offense sucks. They have gotten 7 turnovers and 3 defensive TDs in 2 games. That’s not going to happen week after week. But that is a team that actually wins in the margins. They are so well coached, it’s impressive.

turns out you can beat two top 25 teams with a bad quarterback.

you guys aren't giving your defense much credit though, do you think northwestern or purdue has defenses like yours?

You're right that Iowa is going to lose a couple games because the quarterback may be the worst power 5 quarterback this year.

If Iowa had an above average QB, I think they’d be a top 5 team. They have everything else.

I think everyone knows how good the ISU defense is. But its frustrating that we averaged 30+ points per game last year with basically the exact same offense. I think the defense has gotten better after last year while the offense, so far, has significantly regressed.

I still wasn’t impressed with Iowa today. Both games they’ve been gifted turnovers. If our WRs don’t have stone hands 3 of those picks just don’t happen. Not sure what happened on the fumble, that one might have been a good play. Also thought the first INT ended up being legit although initially was looking for a hold/PI

actually holding should have been called because when the reciever initially got by the defender he grabbed him by the jersey down low. my hawkeye friend that I watched the game with here in colorado agreed. At the point of the intercepton no penalty.

It's human nature to feel good and puff out your chest alittle since the Oregon win. DId it happen, don't know. Most on this site sure did. But CMC's 4th quarter moves leads me to believe the poop hit the fan. My son even said, Oh my it will be ugly next week during practice. BOTTOM LINE: ISU does not have the ability to overcome 4 turnovers against most D 1 teams. PERIOD

Majority of teams don't.

They were the worst type of turnovers as well outside of pick 6s. If they were all inside Iowa's 20 yeah that's tricky but the field position they got just dug the hole deeper. They were also snowballed so no momentum to build.

Yeah, that is how the separation was eliminated. The Dback just grabbed jersey and pulled himself to the receiver and then shoved him off route and went for the pick.

Looking at the game, you can tell what the officiating style does to the style of game. The big ten officials allow a lot of contact from the dbacks, big XII calls a whole lot more. Big ten has a difference interpretation of what holding is compared to the big XII. Big ten officials are prone to the 3 yards and a cloud of dust whereas the big XII officials calls favor a wide open game. Kind of explains why the two conferences are perceived to be so different.

The offense gets one dimensional real quick when the passing game implodes.

Most top ten teams have been there consistently, kind of expected. On the other hand, ISU .....

My favorite was when on the extra point where the end of the d had their hand literally over the 3 yard hash line. The whole section I was in was yelling offsides but the ref just stood there.
The other CYA ref moment. On the onside kick with the flag. I watched to replay, the guy who went out of bounds was never touched until he touched the ball. The flag was right, the ref over ruled it poorly.

EIU can win the west, its not a good division at all, and the schedule will play in their favor. I hate to say it, but this team is a lot like their 2015 team, very good defense, and special teams, and get enough out of their offense to win the game. Right now they are +5 in the TO department. While we are -2.

In football and life, little things mean a lot and add up to big things, and we are making too many mistakes to overcome and get a win against a quality opponent like EIU.

again, NOT MY POINT. I am not saying Iowa is not good. I am not saying iowa is not better than Iowa state. I’m not saying iowa didn’t deserve to win. I’m saying what self respecting Iowa state fan wants them to win the west?

There are a lot of Clone fans that are Hawkeye fans too. Stans may be one of those guys. I personally am not a Hawkeye fan, just like I am not a fan of most colleges. Iowa State is my college. The Hawks were the better team yesterday. Congrats to them. They have a solid team. However, they are our rival. The more success they have hurts our recruiting. Thus, I don't wish them to win the Big 10 West. In fact, though it sounds petty, I wouldn't mind if they go 0-12 every year.

I saw it too. Sometimes it happens and the refs don't see it. We did it to OU last year on OU's last possession. It throws off the play.

None should want them to win the West, but its a pillow fight, and the style of play that EIU plays wins a lot of games against teams that are the same talent wise as what they have.

I heard a great stat today, yesterday Iowa was the first team in 16 years to beat a top 10 ranked team with less than 176 yards of offense.

Its all defense, field position, and special teams, with just enough offense to win the game with no turnovers.

Iowa has a great defense, but their offense is just not good overall. It pains me to say that because I'd prefer believing ISU's defense was the only reason they struggled, but it isn't true. I realize Iowa's schedule is Bishop Sycamore variety stuff, but offensively they play like a team that needs three or more turnovers to win.
