Looks like we're the only ones who will miss it. Of course, one of my favorite things about it was it was easy to get into and outside of the high traffic areas before or after a game. The guy was friendly and would come out and check on you to make sure you were enjoying your meal.

I thought Oddfellows was OK, but I haven't really thought of going there in quite a while.

I've always liked Oddfellows better than Brick City. Better food, better environment. The only times I've been to Brick City have been as a back up plan when the Cafe (and now Wallaby's) has too large a wait. The one thing Brick City does have going for it (besides location) is a better TV set-up for watching games. If the restaurant locations were switched, I could see Oddfellows thriving and Brick City going under.

Not sad to see Oddfellows go. Really wanted to like it but the place just wasn't very good. Burgers were average and I never got it cooked how I wanted. Asked for medium rare and got well done every time except for the time they hardly cooked it at all.
I love the obligatory "hickory park sucks" posts that always show up in a restaurant thread. I'm sorry but you are straight up lying if you say it took an hour before you got your food. I've been to HP with a party of 30 and it never took longer than 20 minutes to get served. BBQ snobs are the worst.

I'm with you........I love Hickory Park.....best value for a good meal in Ames. No, it's not the best bbq in the region...but that's ok. I can take my family there for less than going to McDonalds AND it's quality food.
Yes, it can be busy...but if you are planful (say, arrive at 4:50PM vs 5:15PM) you can get by some of those issues.
I don't know...House of Chen is in a pretty bad location (strip mall on east Lincoln Way). It's still my favorite Asian food restaurant in Ames not named The Spice. At least the Northern Lights area has some residential housing around it.

Location didn't help, but Northern Lights isn't instant death, either. Cafe Shi was wonderful and always packed. I got the impression, reading between lines,that Valentinos closure had more to do with owner/corporate dispute than profitability.
Oddfellows had a price/quality ratio problem, and I still can't figure out what they were trying to do with vibe and branding. Even if they were in Sommerset, they would have met the same fate as Black Market pizza.

Always sad to see a locally owned business close. Sounds like they already have another restaurant lined up for the space. One thing I could see helping the Northern Lights Center is the new Super Walmart they are building next to it which might pull in more shoppers than the smaller (more limited) Walmart store.
I liked oddfellows. I agree that it was a bit pricey though. Brick City is awesome though. I heard the owners of BC were opening up a second place near the Iowa Cubs stadium. Is that still happening?

Tried to get in there and Wallabys a few weeks ago after a basketball game and they were both packed. Headed over to Whiskey River and got right in. Their buffalo chicken wrap is really good, but needed 3 Tall DSM IPAs to wash it down.

It seemed like House of Chen got a lot of business from people going to and from Nevada, so being on that East Lincoln strip might have helped them out
