Didn't see either of those games but SMU and Larry Brown obviously got it right with two 9 point wins.

SMU should have been a tourney team. I'm sure the game film of those two contests was watched a lot by the coaching staff though.

I doubt Self would give Ollie anything on Iowa State, so I'm sure it's the same with Brown. Not sure why a coach would want to hurt a team from their conference.

Well, Fred does credit a lot of what he knows about coaching from Larry Brown. Mentor, mentee type a thing. Ya dig?

When he retired in 2010, several NBA teams wanted him as an assistant coach or in the front office. It made sense: God created a leader in Kevin Ollie, and playing under four Hall of Fame coaches -- Calhoun, Brown, Chuck Daly and Don Nelson -- gave him, as Calhoun says, a "Ph.D. in basketball."

I would expect UConn to not beat SMU. SMU is heading to msg in the tournament of all tournaments the nit. UConn is in the cruddy NCAA tournament which means nothing, just ask hook fans.

The teams that have given UConn the most problems this year are defensive oriented teams that have beat us at our own game. They are teams that play slow but have size in the frontcourt. SMU x2, Stanford and Cinci fit that description.

The houston loss was kind of lightening in a bottle on new years eve. They came out unconscious and got up by 20 on us. We battled back but the time ran out on the clock before we could completely make up the difference.

Then there is Louisville who is 3 of our losses. A matchup nightmare for us with an athletic freak big in Montrezl Harrel and a zone press defense that really was built to take away our strength offensively.

The team that closest resembles ISU's high octane offense (please don't get offended I understand they aren't in the same class) is Memphis who we beat 3 times. If you aren't committed to defense and allow us to play our game, we can fill it up with you. We hung 86 and 83 on Memphis in our first two games and 72 in them in the AAC tourney because we were up 20 and took our foot off the gas for the last 10 min.

UConn prefers to limit possessions, play defense first and let bazz go to work on the other end against tough defenses. But we can play up too.

Good stuff.

People think ISU plays bad defense, but I kind of disagree. Our offensive style is gonna be condusive to high scoring games no matter how good our defense is. Very few teams can do both high octane offense and defense. But when we need to we can clamp down, we can, Baylor game is a good example of that, we lose that game without a very good defensive effort. We can play defense against UConn, but we would rather out score a team. We tend to give up buckets when the other team is in the paint because we don't want to foul. UConn will have to be on to beat us. We will force you to make jumpers. We are good at limiting turnovers, so the other team will have to work to get their buckets.

I expect this game to go down to the last few minutes. Whoever plays well in crunch time will win.

Here's the summation of AAC year one:
Louisville beat SMU twice.
SMU beat UConn twice.
UConn beat Memphis three times.
Memphis beat Louisville twice.
Louisville beat UConn three times.
Everybody split vs. Cincy in rock throwing contests.
Houston won a couple of upsets.
Everybody else sucked.
