SIAP: Travis Hines with a great article

Probably the most frustrating part of this season to me isn't the team. It's the fans, and Hines hit on this nicely. We have a small but very loud segment of the fanbase that acts like complete ****** bags, and our players are hearing their BS disproportionately. We need to send them packing.
 
Good article, sorry we have high expectations. Not a season ticket holder and I still spent 1000+ dollars to watch them play 3 games this year. I think if Hines and some of these other reporters had to spend the money watching these teams (football,bball) they would understand what it feels like. (Not what so ever implying that it's ok to go after players on Twitter, that's bs.) But to understand what it's like to spend huge amounts of money following these teams and supporting ISU. Maybe then they will understand why fans get so upset when expectations are not met.

Are you implying you'd be less upset if you didn't spend the cash?

I'm not sure who I hate more, the trashy "fans" who go after the players on Twitter, or those that have this exaggerated sense of entitlement, like they are owed something.

I don't disagree with this in any way, but in the era of digital media and social networks, the last part seems to be to be all but impossible. A very small minority can make a very large amount of noise. The only way I can think of to do that is for those of us who recognize the destructive minority to be more vocal in our support of the team and to make an effort to "drown out" (for lack of a better term) that minority when they appear.

If you are a season ticket holder, or spend cash......I think yes, you are more invested than most, and you want to see your team win! I spent that kind of cash in KC, but part of it was for the experience too, regardless of your teams outcome.
 
Use Gadson as an example and get rid of social media....

I see where you're coming from. I made it to 25 games this year, and spent a grand plus doing so. Would I take it back, hell no. But I think I deserve the right to be ******.
 
I enjoy the players' instagram accounts, they are pretty funny. The other social media stuff to me seem like a bad idea, especially twitter. I will never understand those who attack the players. The coaches either, although, they will tell you they can take it. The ol "im a man, im 40" moment was great. He was absolutely right in saying that stuff. The coaches get paid the big bucks for wins, the criticism comes with the territory.

ISU sports are entertainment.

If you got taken out to dinner/taken to a movie and didn't have to pay would you be estatic if the meal/film didn't meet expectations? Most likely not but you would be content becuase you got a free meal/ a few hours of free entertainment.

If I didn't go to ISU, give 1000's of dollars in donations/football tickets/following and supporting the basketball team would I be content with making the tournement? Yes.

But I do so I get frustrated when expectations are not met. Don't worry though, I took JP's ticket increases to the nuts and will be sitting in the south end zone club cheering on a 4 win football team and spend the same money supporting ISU basketball.

Don't appreciate people who don't have any of there own cash in supporting ISU telling me how to feel about my expectations. still think Hines is a great writer though.

Expectations were warranted, if not outright encouraged.

Now, fwiw - the fans that attack players on social media like we saw (well I didn't see, but gathered) after the KSU game - that's despicable.
 
No money in the world gives anyone a right to go after college kids. Heck I spend 10k a year on tickets to a professional team and I don't get as bent out of shape as many on here. More $$ doesn't give someone the right to be a bigger d ick.

SMH. The money spent justifies being a jack *** fallacy.

Did you read the article? Hines doesn't give a **** that Cyclone fans are being a bunch of dumb *****. He is telling you the team and coaches do.

Everyone understands being upset. It is the feeling of entitlement to outwardly being a jack *** to all-time Cyclone greats that is in question. Although judging by how many are confused by that difference, it could be low intelligence to blame.

To make my point clear I agree with this 100%. My beef is a reporter/some fan who doesn't give a dime telling me to chill with my expectations.

fwiw I saw yesterday coming back in February and told all my friends and they called me crazy. Yesterday doesn't sting as bad becuase of that.

I love supporting ISU and will continue to do so win or lose. Call me a sucker, I love spending Saturday's in Ames and following the basketball team.

I tend to side with this. Hoiberg and the team had these expectations.....and buying season tickets doesn't mean you are more of a fan or entitled to be more upset than anyone else.

either way nobody should be messaging players on any social media whatsoever. We have threads and a forum here to vent frustrations....which...sorry....if you're a player and looking in those threads, and it effects your play? That's on you.
