ESPN's weekly QBR list shows Brock Purdy as the #8 QB for this week with a QBR of 91.5. Granted this is just a one-week sample and we will have to see how he does going forward, but I can't imagine right now looking at Purdy as a redshirt candidate yet.

Purdy is the starting QB for the rest of the season. Period. Not even a discussion.
To be fair, our defense has played one of the top schedules in the country. Ranked at 33 after that is outstanding.
Iowa, Akron and TCU don’t exactly have vaunted offenses though.
But I don’t want to make it sound bad. I think our defense has been great. I’m just saying OSU’s defense isn’t as bad as people seem to think it is.
I theorize that the only reason we saw Brock yesterday was due to DM being inactive. We needed a playmaker back there, someone to keep the defense honest on the ground. That was Brock. If DM's not hurt, Brock isn't playing IMO.
I'm not sure if that means anything for the future however. If DM isn't back next week, I'm sure we see Brock again. If DM is back next week, or at the very latest, back against TTU after the bye...Brock will still be inside that 4 game window.
He looked really good. Comfortable. Crafty. Now that there is tape on him, I doubt he gets away with all of those fakes. It will be tougher sledding for him against WVU. That game will tell us a lot. My guess is we haven't seen the last of Zeb. Or KK for that matter

It's not that I don't want to be a believer in Brock. I'm just keeping my expectations tempered for now. It wasn't a great d, that had next to no knowledge of him going into the game. I echo those who say that there are stark similarities to Sam, although I think Purdy showed he may have greater intangibles, better mental toughness etc. We need to wait and see before anointing him the guy from here on out.
It’s last or next to last in the conference in the pass defense and pass defense efficiency categories. Maybe It’s not as good as you seem to think it is?
Honestly, I’ve never really been one to give a **** about much other that scoring. 700 yards a game doesn’t win you games if you’re only scoring 18 points a game on it. Same goes for defense. If our defense gives up 650 yards but only gives up 14 points, I’m happy as a clam.

Those offenses might not be prolific, but you have to factor in the fact that our offense had been giving them next to no help, which kept them on the field most of those games too.
Having David back their with Purdy makes Brock even more effective. Not sure why you would think otherwise.
I don't have any doubt it does. I also know, though, that it makes Kempt/Zeb much more effective as well. Purdy can create on his own a little, whereas the other 2 kind of have their blemishes hidden when Montgomery is on the field. Without DM back there to create and take pressure off Zeb yesterday, they had no choice but to roll with Purdy if they wanted to compete and win. That's what I'm getting at.
OSU = not a good defense, but came into the game 2nd in the nation in sacks. Zeb would have gotten teed off on with OSU knowing all we could do was pass.
Agreed. This thread is senseless. You don't jeopardize the season playing below average QBs to strategize not burning a redshirt for a single player. Iowa State isn't in a position as a program to settle for 6 win seasons in order to look ahead at future seasons for 1 person. We need 8-9+ win seasons to setup good recruiting NOW. Example: Cubs utilized one of the youngest rosters we've ever seen in 2016 because they were the best players available and it paid off, and they've been in the playoffs 4 straight years (even though they choked this year). Point is, you play your best available players to win now, period.

Judging by our history with 1st time QBs, clearly the answer is 14 scholarship QBs so we have a new one for every regular season plus the eventual national playoff games. 
If we've learned nothing else, we have at least two capable QBs. I was excited when Noland got to play because I thought he'd be more mobile and offer some running capability to stretch the defense. Didn't happen. I'm hoping it's because Campbell kept the reins on him not wanting to get hurt and not knowing for sure what we had with Purdy.
But with that being said, Purdy is the real deal. I watched his highlight tape before the season and what impressed me about him more than anything was his accuracy while running. He's a true playmaker ...something which we haven't had in a very long time. There will be hiccups as teams figure him out, but as a capable runner it's like having another player on the field. Maybe Campbell saw the success of Mahomes and thought he better give the kid a shot. LOL

Campbell already told Williams after the game Purdy was going to get his chance to play.
I wouldn’t put that poster as part if the fan base. He’s a chickenshit troll aka jonnydognuts.
Purdy s success this season hinges a lot on how we integrate him with DM. We’re easier to defend for big 12 teams running this offense so if we can remake ourselves offensively in to something new again it could be money. Or Purdy could be a transcendent mobile QB with the weapons that we have at receiver. I don’t know what will happen but I want to see where this team goes with Purdy, we have to ride it and find out.
All games before yesterday, neither of those two were really all that effective, and neither did a very good job of going to a more productive option like a dump off.
To me yesterday looked like the ISU scheme needs someone who's going to put stress on the defense to respond which left more players open.
It’s still significantly better than KU’s 2012 defense in November.
