Seemingly never ending Iowa MBB thread (still going.....)

If Iowa fans don't think losing Jok is going to be a huge blow then they are delusional. Much like Niang, Jok makes everyone around him a much better player and we have obviously struggled in the post Niang era and that's with much better talent than what Iowa will be putting on the floor next year. Cue the "we won 3 games without him" comment....

I like Jok, but he is nowhere close to as valuable for Iowa as Niang was for ISU. Niang was a walking mismatch and very few teams ever had anybody that could slow him down. He was a great college basketball player and one that was severely underrated by the national press.

The problem is that he seems to have already reached his pretty low ceiling. Unless Iowa, somehow, finds a point guard that can handle and distribute the ball, he's always going to be a below average point guard that can't play defense. His best position would be as a spot-up 3 point shooter coming off the bench, which also happens to be Ellingson's best position. Additionally, Ellingson has the extra size to allow him to occasionally get off a, sort of, contested shot.

This is the winning answer here

I agree but for comparison sake, they both have a very similar presence on the court. Niang would exploit mismatches and had the inside out game. Jok can pretty much get his shot every trip down the court and draws a lot of extra attention and that creates open looks for his teammates just off of a simple ball reversal. Iowa's guards and forwards will have to work much much harder for good looks next year and without a true PG, it's going to be tough sledding.

What about if you grew up being an Iowa fan? Like your family has been Iowa fans since who know when so you were just born into being an Iowa fan. Is that a tavernhok?

I'm sure, actually I know, there are Iowa State fans who are Clones fans, who never attended Iowa State. Does that make them tavernclones?

Plus, I've never understood why just because you didn't attend a University you can't root for them? Having more fans of your team is a good thing, right? I mean, I doubt Michigan, or Texas, or the Cowboys, or the Cubs are like, man we got to get rid of all these fans we have....

No, being a fan with no connection can be acceptable. What isn't acceptable is being loud, arrogant, entitled, or a-hole when these fans have no connection to that team or school. It should be never acceptable for any fan to act that way when they're not on the team, however when said fans have no connection to even "their school" and put down "your school," caused "tavernhok" to be born.

Well I guess that is why they play the games and why we all watch, to be entertained.
I'm pretty sure you aren't going to find Iowa basketball entertaining when you finally wake up and realize it's hopeless. Can't wait to see that dump in IC 3/4 empty because nobody wants to watch that garbage.

Cyclone fan, Hawkeye fan, or none of the above, this response is about as good as I've seen.

To all the idiots that think fans of school can only be graduates of said school just don't get it. Do you people realize what it means when you have a bunch of fans claiming to be a fan to a school that otherwise they have nothing attaching them to that school? The only reason is that the team the non-graduates are rooting for is the team that has had more success than the other teams in the state/area/district they are from. I can't wait for the Cyclones to have a bunch of tavernclone fans because that will mean we are winning more than the other options.

Wake the **** up fellow Cyclone fans!!!

I love watching Iowa, it is entertainment for me. I just don't really get all that worked up if they win or lose, especially in basketball. They are college kids.

My favorite sports team is the Pirates, I can occasionally get pretty worked up about them, but then again they also get paid for what they do, so I expect more I guess.

I honestly try to take that approach also, but sometimes I get a little worked up watching ISU basketball. But I've never gotten as worked up as I did watching the Cubs in the playoffs this year.

I don't understand how you can love watching bad basketball. I'm a wrestling fan too and try to watch ISU as much as I can and it's honestly painful to the point where I've stopped this year

Because I enjoy and find it entertaining to watch my favorite teams play.

Obviously not as much fun, but I still want to watch every game I can.
You get points for loyalty. I guess I still watched during the McDoormat years but it wasn't fun. You guys have had 2 terrible coaches in a row. At what point does it become totally hopeless and you just find a new hobby?
