Nope, it's all who you beat and where you beat them
The Wildcats are far from safe at this point, particularly given that their nonconference schedule and lack of elite wins could put them at a glaring disadvantage in a head-to-head nitty-gritty comparison. But as long as the Wildcats don't totally pull an Iowa in the final month of the regular season, it shouldn't come to that.
Nevermind, Iowa did make the bubble watch
Georgia Tech and Michigan made Espn's initial bubble watch list for ****'s sake. Iowa would have at least made the page had they not choked against that scrub team.
I'd be pumped for a NIT lock. Any logical iowa fan knew that March Madness wasn't really in the cards for this year.
Georgia Tech has 4 top 30 wins, 1 of them on the road. Iowa has 1 top 150 win away from Carver and it was Rutgers
Fair enough, explain Michigan then. 14-9(4-6) in the Big Ten, with their best win over Indiana, best non-conf win was SMU which is probably about the same as Iowa beating us, havent even won a road game yet.
Iowa at 15-9(6-4) would have at least made the page if they are going to put Michigan on there.
And I forgot they just lost to Ohio State in Ann Arbor over the weekend. Thats a horrible loss any way you look at it.
They think Bohannon is good nowWhy? We have a good coach now and your guards will be terrible next year
Michigan is really bad, Iowa beat them head to head also. The bubble is extremely soft if Michigan is showing up on lists. They beat SMU on a neutral court, that's probably the only difference
They think Bohannon is good now

Go look at HN. They are gushing over him. It's like they are all on crack. They really don't think that do they?

Maybe he had a good game against Nebraska or Rutgers or something? They have no guards. They are going to be average for a long time. We will always be the top basketball team in the state, and soon we will be the top football team too. Poor little brother is going to be crying in their trailer parks.I'd prefer not to. He's looked pretty bad the games I've watched him play
All about program expectations. Iowa fans should be happy with the infusion of new players this year with a more fun style of play after the past few years of Gissel, Woody, Uthoff and White especially with no real expectations. (I for one don't go into a season hoping for a NIT invite)
I would be concerning to me that the freshman haven't really improved over the year. If this class will lead to the next golden era of Hok basketball I would have expected to seen more from them by mid February. This was a problem with Fran's last "monster" class with Gessel and Woody playing at roughly the same level for 4 years.
Will Fran by into to Bohannon as the PG for the next 3 years and not recruit/land a upgrade? if so I don't see their ceiling improving. That said if the level fans need to pump the fan base is NIT bids then Fran can sign the life contract right now.
Can you imagine how insanely cocky they'd be if they had made 2 Sweet 16s, had a handful of all americans, 5/6 straight NCAAs and won the Big Ten tournament twice? They'd be putting themselves on the level of the Jordan Bulls.
I'm not satisfied with Fran being here this long, having the recruiting opportunities he's had, that leave us playing for an NIT bid, instead of into the big tournament. I do like our freshman class, Bohannon probably isn't a true point guard and is our truely weak spot, as a top tier PG would be a dynamic that'd open up shooters and the posts, but without the fear of our guards betting anyone off of the dribble, it limits our offense.
I think if Cook and Pemsl both continue to improve that the will be extremely good when they are upper classmen. However, they do need to learn how to box out, as giving up 16 offensive rebounds to Nebraska is pathetic. Wagner continues to improve, but I don't think he has an extremely high ceiling. It was nice seeing Kriener get some minutes and show a smooth jumper from 15', something the rest of our posts don't have in their game. Baer is Baer - he is going to get rebounds, scrap balls, and score 5-10 points a game. An energy guy, fun to have on the court and does what he needs to do very well.
We'll see what the next years class looks like, but I'd say that we'll be in the tournament for the upcoming years.

Freshmen this season with 100+ assists, 50+ 3-pointers:
***UCLA's Lonzo Ball (176 asts, 53 3's)
***Iowa's Jordan Bohannon (107 asts, 50 3's)
Seems like he must be decent. That was a few games ago.
Only 2 to 1 Assist to turnover ratio, which we all know isn't great
87.5% from FT line
Made 54 3's so far this year, 38% from out there, not great either
But then again, Naz only has 57 made 3's on the year, shooting 35.8% from 3.
So, your 3 point specialist has made a few more 3's than our freshman point guard, while shooting a lower percentage from 3. Interesting....considering ours is trying to run the offense
Think how much better you guys would be if you would have landed Jackson when you recruited him.
