Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I'm being 100% honest in saying any top 25 team could beat Rutgers playing 4 guys. They're that bad. Rutgers is way way way worse than UNI

I would bet an infinite amount of money against this ridiculous post.

Tournament games aren't played at Hilton. Haven't beaten a ranked team on the road and are 9-6 since losing Naz.
Would you consider the season more successful if you win a tournament game despite having a worse seed and worse season overall?

iowa fans did last season

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

You barely beat a horrible OSU without their 2 best players. 2.

OSU is better than half of the B1G but I agree, they are not good. I don't think you understand how bad Rutgers and Minnesota are

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

St. Peters is 8-13 and gave a higher RPI than Rutgers. Can we agree that teams like Iowa or ISU can just show up and beat teams like Rirgers and Minnesota? You don't earn anything beating teams that aren't competitive

It's obviously rare for a top 25 team to lose to teams outside the top 150, most bubble teams usually have a bad loss or two though.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I just texted my buddy who's a huge Hawkeye fan:

"What is the worst game Iowa has played this year"

He responded:

"Rutgers"

Iowa scored 90 pts and won by double digits playing their worst game of the year. Road wins are earned in the Big 12, not always the case in the B1G

RPI:

Minnesota - 223
Rutgers - 231

8 out of the 10 Big 12 teams are in the top 60

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Is ISU's ceiling as good or better than Iowa's? On any given night, absolutely. ISU can beat anyone in the country when playing at their best. But unless the bench starts producing beyond Burton, I wouldn't place any bets on them stringing together a series of games at their best.

That said, Iowa's got their flaws, too. At their best, I think they can also beat damn near anyone. And their bench play has allowed them to play with more consistency than ISU has this year. But right now Woody is the only true big on the roster (Wagner is playing well of late, but we'll see where he's at in a few weeks) and his defense/rebounding is critical. I thought Purdue would expose that lack of post depth with all their size, but their guard play is so weak that Iowa could focus almost entirely on containing the bigs. Maryland is Purdue with great guard play, and even though Maryland didn't shoot well, their guards are too good to not focus on, which opened up space for the frontcourt players against Woody. When he got into foul trouble and had to sit, it got really ugly inside.

Agree with this. I'd say ISU's ceiling probably better. But until they prove they can beat a team worth anything on the road, they're not going to shake the perception that they're soft away from the cushy confines of Hilton. They've had their chances, and haven't.

They've also shown their floor is a lot lower by losing to uni and playing bad teams close

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

I'll agree with this. We probably have the same floor and ceiling as North Carolina

Except unc has two losses to your six and you've routinely played bad teams close. Wouldn't be surprised by another first round exit since you won't get as high as seed and will have to play a better team to begin with.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Haha the Hawk trolls are out after that win? They must have really been counting ISU losing at OSU.

I don't even want to hear it from Hawkeye fans about conference chest thumping. I've never seen a fanabse ride the coattails of conference performance like Iowa fans in the NCAA tournament the last four or five years. Or how about the Ohio State football national championship? It's like they completely forgot about getting punked by a middle of the road SEC team in Tennessee.

Also Cheeto, are you willing to admit that ISU had a better season than Iowa last year even though they didn't advance as far in the tournament? Is that a road you want to go down? Because I've heard much different from many Iowa fans on that topic.

North Carolina has 3 losses. They have the 47th toughest SOS while ISU is 2nd. UNC RPI is 9th, ISU is 12th. I would say it's pretty spot on. Only difference is we blew out Va Tech when they played them and they almost lost to them

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

Oklahoma State is so horrible but yet they are better than half of the teams in the B1G. I feel like that's not being discussed enough in this thread

With Juwuan Evans they are. Without they are not.

Re: Iowa MBB now a projected #1 seed

OU - Final Four contender WVU - Sweet 16 ISU - Sweet 16 if they get a decent draw, otherwise a 2nd round loss is probable with your bench. KU - Will most likely get upset in the 2nd round, watched them a few times this year not impressed. Baylor - Wild card.. Probably will lose early. Texas - Wild card.. will lose early. Everyone else is mediocre. So why exactly should we crown the Big 12 when they're even with every other conference?
Just happy we beat the best team in the B12 and BIG.
