Moving over 1 section is not being priced out. There are season ticket packages in JTS for $99 bucks. So if you want to be picky about where you sit.. then fork up the money. If you can't enjoy it from a SLIGHTLY worse seat.

I don't think any fan would honestly say a bigger budget would not be a better thing. The problem is, you have to give the higher donors a reason to donate. In this case, it's better seats. I doubt you see these sections empty, which means there are people out there who are willing to pay the premium. The nice thing about ISU is that you're still able to purchase season tickets without donating anything. On top of that, you can buy season tickets for under $200. That's insane.

Some peoples feelings get hurt, or they feel they've been wronged, but if there are others willing to pay more for those seats, I think it's money you have to go after. That $250 you mention for 2 children is a big difference. In my case, $250 doesn't even cover 1 week of daycare for my 1 child, let alone 2 so I understand money is tight. On top of that, if I want to go to a game I have to pay over $3/gallon to drive 700 miles, or over $300/person for plane tickets. I don't complain about it though, I just realize that it's important enough to me to spend the money on while not having other luxury's.

Truth is if you could afford last years tickets with the $250 donation, you can find a way to get tickets this year too. They may not be the same seats you've had, and I agree it's too bad, but you don't have to give up all together if it's important to you. If it's not, then it's not.

I forgot, ISU has not had any large donations. What is the name of that practice facility next to JTS? Gosh, I think it won the top indoor facility in the country a couple of years ago.

How many times has ISU played Oklahoma in the last 20 years, 15? ISU is 0 fer vs. OU. Boise St. has played OU 1 in that time and is 1-0 against them. This is all about players and coaches. Yes each school needs cash but I think everyone gets way too caught up in the money excuse as it has become an accepted excuse across the country. Each coach will say they do not have enough money for their program. They can always use more 52" tv's for watching tape and to have in the weight rooms. If players do not like/respect the coaches you will have what is happening in Iowa City. BTW, doesn't EIU have the third highest athletic budget in the big 10?

EIU didnt have much of a problem raising $85 mill to redo KS. I dont remember the amount KSU got from the one person but I think it was in the $20 mill range. Yes ISU has had their share of donations but other schools get more. You have to be able to attract players and coaches. When Mac came to Ames the team practiced in what looked like a ditch east of the staduim and 1/2 mile away in the some rough field, now that is attractive to prospects. Heck it was well into Macs tenure that they got the practice field and he as about done when they got the indoor building. Iowa has wore their 1st indoor facality out. Currently the BB team practices all over campus in old gyms, it is possable they may practice in a differnt place each day of the week, now thats handy for them. That looks good to prospects when they can to go else where and have everything in one place.

I agree it is about players and coaches but you have to get those people to campus and practicing in parking lots isnt very attractive.

I understand some cannot afford it or they dont want to pay it and I understand and accept that. It does suck for a 30 yr ticketholder to get pushed out and that shouldnt happen, but there are other options. Heck I may get forced out of my seat at some point.

Well said. Im not that old, but have had the same Varsity club seats the past few years. I enjoy the people around me, so even though I could move closer to the 50 its fun near the end. I wish people wouldn't be so afraid of moving. Not a bad seat in the house.

This is about supply and demand. Some long time ticket holders are going to leave. Some new ones will come in. JP will continue to push the envelope until demand drops off. I'm not sure if he's there yet, but he's getting closer.

Well said and good points. It is a supply/demand issue and I can't think of anyone that isn't saddened that the reality of that leaves some of the programs long term supporters unable to attend games anymore. That's a shame. I echo the wishes that they come back when they're able.

I hope that some that can still support the program realize that following the same team for more than 30 years is more special than supporting them in the same seat. While it hurts to move, I hope they continue their years of support if all it takes is moving to a new seat.

$250 may not be a lot of money to some people. But to others it is.

I enjoy my $195/each Cy's Pack season tickets. They're fine for now, once I hit baller status on income I might decide to move up to seats that require donations.

I do too... but I didn't see anywhere in his post that he didn't plan on it. Just felt betrayed for losing his seats. Totally understandable after 30 years.

saving money for retirement is always first in my book....ISU games come in around 8th or 9th. Great to go when possible, but not the end of the world

I think ISU does a great job of letting fans have affordable seats. $99 in bball and $99 or $125 tickets in football. I think you would be hard pressed to find those tickets elsewhere.

It's all economics. I have family in the golf industry. There are municipalities struggling to keep their courses open because "established members" aren't willing to pay more for their memberships and/or allow more tee times to the high-paying public. Case in point, San Diego.

The cost for some local members is around $25-35 per round - on Pebble Beach! Pebble and the other public SD courses are losing tons of potential revenue from non-members because the locals aren't willing to pay a few dollars more per round. Because of that, the courses loses thousands of dollars per DAY.

I understand that we don't all have extra money laying around. But if someone is willing to fork out the $$ for quality tickets, someone else is going to have to move aside. Not necessarily OUT, but aside. Not fair, but reality.

I live in Oregon and I'm willing to drop $500 - $1000+ on airfare, rentals, tix, etc. for ONE game per season...and I'm not loaded. For the coin I drop to support ISU for one game, I could probably pay for season tickets and let them sit empty for all but one game each season.

Or I could be a wise consumer, pay for season tix, go to a game of my choice each year and sell the remaining tickets for the other games to the highest bidders - because the extra $$ you invest NOW in ISU tix will be worth many times more in the near future when we're competing for titles and playing in BCS games.

Supply and demand. Buy low, sell high.

Now, if I only had a job...

While I feel bad for the original poster, as well as many others, for losing their seats, I guess I'll have to be one of those asses that doesn't completely understand giving up season tickets altogether. In my lifetime the best seats my family has had are at the 10 yard line. My parents donation level is good enough to move to better seats, but they enjoy the people they have around them and really don't care to move to a different/"better" section.

Everybody has their priorities in life, and they need to figure out where they want to be spending their money and making sacrifices. Nobody should be telling them to buck up or anything of that nature. But at the same time, don't be looking for pity because you don't want to move over a section or two.

If you really want to keep your seats that bad, find somebody that you can split the season with. Then get some hillside tickets for the games you don't have the seats for. I'm guessing you could still find some pretty good seats in the stadium that you could move into for those games.
