Section 12 - 30 years at $100

I've said this several times, but 2 years ago, I went to games with a group of people 9 strong. Last year we were down to 4 after the price increases. This year we're moving sections.

As for ISU sports still being "cheap" entertainment... most of my wife and I's entertainment dollar is spent on ISU athletics. With the exception of MBB, it isn't cheap. And it isn't cheap compared to the rest of the Big 12. We are at best, middle of the pack INCLUDING donation levels. And whether we want to admit it or not, that is a lot to ask for a program that hasn't won a conference championship in what is quickly approaching 100 years.

I did not renew my tickets this year either. I have had tickets consistantly since JT was built, plus a year or two at ole Clyde Williams. I was not going to post because I don't want to spread negativity. But someone opened the door. When I calculated the cost this year: $500 donation, $700 for 2 tickets, $50 parking, $60 for seats, and the cooker, $20 processing fee came to over $1300, not counting driving a couple hundred miles with $3+ fuel, it reached my limit. I hope some businesses will buy up some of these tickets or some more well-to-do come-latelys will buy them. My concern is for many like us who have been here through all the ups and downs, mostly downs, the loyal ones we are losing. I will still root the Cyclones and am confident the best is still to come. Go Cyclones. We have to use the radio to cheer you on.

Being priced out is going to an NFL game for $85 bucks just to walk in the door. Getting something to drink for $6+ a glass. At ISU, you can watch every single home game for a little more than that. I have 2 kids in daycare and one 7 year old so I know what it cost to run a family with the 15K+ we spend on just daycare alone. Things are getting tighter with me and once my kids get old enough to go to all the games, I will have to probably have to figure something else out so we can all sit together.

If ISU bowls in the south endzone he coud make that whole south endzone cheap tickets if he wanted.

Another problem college budgets are facing is that for what it cost to donate, drive, tailgate, concessions, people are finding that its easier to buy a nice flatscreen and home theatre system and catch it on tv. The problem with the Big12 is that you don't know if your on tv until that week.

No, Jamie has decided if I can give $250; I should give $500.
I just can't help at that level. I wished he had gone after the 70,000 alumni that give nothing.

Jamie's decided your seats are worth more than $250. If you can't pay it, others will.

Why not move a couple sections over and donate $250?

To the people who are upset that they have to increase their donation or move to worse seats, I can understand your dissappointment. However, imagine the dissappointment of a fan who donates more than you and has to sit in worse seats. At some point the arrangement has to be changed to allow the fans that can afford larger donations to have the better seats. It's the natural order of things in this world.

Do you realize that Iowa State season tickets are MORE EXPENSIVE on a per game basis than several NFL teams?!?! That doesn't even include the donation part. If you include a $500 donation for 2 tickets in there, the cost per game is over $100 per ticket. That is more per game than ANY NFL season ticket. And as we all know, we are getting far less than NFL quality football.

$15,000 on daycare in Bondurant? Holy high-priced Batman!

Daycare is like a mortgage Payment. Baby Formula has the street value of Cocain. On the bright side.....Once the kids enter Public school....I get a raise.

Baby - 180/wk --> = approx $9300
3 year Old: 130/wk --->6700 - (10% discount) = approx $6000
7 year old: 25/wk after school 20 minutes ----> = approx $1300

Total cost for just childcare: Approx = $16,600
I could have some pretty nice seats for that.

What I was trying to say is for $99-125 bucks you sit your hiney in the endzone or hills without a donation at all. That is letting people that can't afford sitting were they are used to sit a way to still go to the game. Therefore this is not pricing them out of the events.
You could even donate 100 bucks to be a century member and sit in section 19 wich is on the 5 yard line. (JT doesn't have a bad seat IMO) That would cost you $450 for the whole season. I think you hit it on the head with the quality of play though. Nobody would be having this conversation if we were 10-2 last season right? Just look at Iowa. They have set the bar extremely high with there ticket prices/donations based on the couple years of decent teams and the 2 years of them backing into a nice bowl game with a crappy record. If they fall apart this year with an easy schedule their fans might get a little fussy. The same fans that were willing to pay when they were winning.

I can at least say I offset your non-renewal. Increased my donation from $1,500 - $2,500 and bought 2 additional full price season tickets to boot.

Hopefully for every story of yours, their is a story of mine and in the long run the overall revenue increases. I hate to see anyone priced out of purchasing season tickets but unfortuantely this seems to be the norm around college campuses. The Rutgers and Boise State stories are nice but for everyone of those great stories, there are the - Iowa States, Baylors, Northwestern, Indiana, and Minnesota's out there.

Wow. The $/wins discussion is very much a chicken/egg type of discussion...which comes first? I happen to believe that if we have any chance of fielding a competitive athletic program we need to have a bigger budget. If you want to keep having the cheapest ticket in the Big 12, then you will keep having the bottom tier team.

In my estimation, this is why it is so critical that we see progression (ie: winning) in our two major revenue generating sports...FB and BB. Frankly, we cannot afford the patience most of you want to extend to both McDermott and Chizik. We need to win and win in short order. I was stunned on another thread where I stated that we needed to see more wins out of Chizik this year and someone (Bobber, I believe) said he was OK with more losses in year two of the Chizik era. This "it costs too much money" discussion happens far less when you have successful teams that you are paying to see. We need to win and win fast in both FB and BB.

A few things for those of you that haven't been around to different parts of the country to see how things are being done:

--There are virtually no bad seats at JTS. Nearly every seat is a sideline seat and both the lower level and the upper levels are very close to the action. You go to LSU, Tennesse, Texas, Florida, etc and EVERYONE in a sideline seat is paying more than you are at ISU (combination of ticket price and "donation"). The guys in the "cheap seats" at these stadiums need oxygen tanks and powerful binoculars to enjoy the game from their seat.

--Other schools are increasing both ticket and "donation" levels every year...this is not something that only ISU is doing. In fact, we are actually behind the curve on this by a significant margin.

--Most of the NFL tickets that I know of come with a "seat license" type of arrangement. To say most NFL tickets are cheaper than ISU tickets is ludicrous.

--Everyone has "cheap seats"...the CFB powerhouses and the NFL...it is just a reality that the location of those cheap seats in their stadiums just don't exist at ISU since we have such a small venue...again virtually every seat in the stadium is a good seat.

Frankly, the guy that started this thread can do what he wants with his money...it really is none of our business until he gets on this site and tells us about it. The reality as I see it is that he could continue to go to the games and keep paying what he has been paying...he just has to move a little further away from the 50 yard line. Do you think he would be bowing out if Chizik would have come in and won 7 or 8 games last year? Do you think he will want back in if Chizik wins 8 or 9 games this year?

HUH? I don't think you answered his question. There are plenty of seats available for a $250 donation. YOU are the one who is choosing not to be "invonvenienced" and moved 1 section.

Here's a hint as well. If you buy the ticket, you can likely move to a better seat at 75% of the games if you so choose. Not that I recommend people sitting in seats that aren't assigned to them, but it happens every game big time and is not policed by security.

Problem solved! You raised your donation by $1000. You should call in and 'earmark' $250 of your raise to cover cyclone79's deficit and everybody wins. You still get the tax write-off, cyclone79 remains a loyal, avid supporter of Cyclone football, and you get the satisfaction of helping out a fellow Cyclone.

Now where's that group hug smiley again? :smile:

I don't understand. If you can't give $500, give whatever you are able to and sit in those seats. If you can only give $100, then you can sit in the $100 level seats, how is this a problem? Endzone seats are fine seats, as are the corners, just give what you are able to and go have a good time at the game. Maybe you don't get to keep your seats, maybe your friends will laugh at you for having to move, but atleast you'd be there.

I really respect the fans like you who really stuck through thick and thin. Good luck and I hope you can pick up some singles and make it to a few games this year. I'll pour one out for you guys while tailgating.

I too am having trouble coming up with the funds right now. The Cyclone Club was VERY helpful to set up a payment plan so I could still give $250 and do it in a way so I get credit for making April 1st deadline, but can basically pay the balance when the funds are there. (I will have the money, but not at this moment in time:no:) I have not renewed my tickets yet as I don't have the funds at this time. However, I WILL renew but will just have to wait until about June 1st to do it. I had seats in a nondonor section so it's not a big deal. I just understand I won't guarantee I will get the same seats as last year. Oh, well:mask:

Moving over 1 section is not being priced out. There are season ticket packages in JTS for $99 bucks. So if you want to be picky about where you sit.. then fork up the money. If you can't enjoy it from a SLIGHTLY worse seat.

My opinion as well. There are plenty of affordable seats. Pretty narrow minded to say you aren't going to buy tickets because you have to move seats.

I guess I don't get the original point. If you are worried about making daycare payments, just buy Cy's Pack and your ISU FB costs actually went DOWN. Or just move over ONE section to 13 and keep your same donation.

ISU has the lowest giving per donor in the conference. JP has to give donors a reason to give...and this is it. I respect all of the fans who have been there for 30+ years. I've only been a season ticket holder for 15. But if you are that big a fan, you have to understand that they are only doing what is best for the program.

Either way, there's no reason for the "woe is me" talk when you can buy hillsides for $99 and find a seat after the game has started.
