SEC Myth - Iowa Nice Guy

I thought it was funny. The kids were pretty good actors. Siepker has been pretty open that he cheers for both teams. Relax, people.
Rooting for both teams is not acceptable

And for my Exhibit I will use the 2011 NC game between Alabama and LSU. Despite these teams not only being in the same conference but the same division, they were far and away the two best teams in college football that year. Okie State despite having 1 loss to us, was not on their level.

Far and away the best teams? That can't be said with any credibility.

I personally disagree with him. The SEC had 7 NC's in a row (Florida, LSU, Bamax3 and Auburn from 2006 to 2012). I personally don't feel it is a bias or myth when the facts are there to prove it is the best conference.

Maybe next year he can MC the Iowa version of Hilton Madness since he likes Iowa so much.

My thoughts as well!!!! Whatever his shtick is getting old

There are plenty of schools that can complain about SEC bias, any school in the b1G, doesn't have that luxury. If you factor in CBB, ESPN favors the b1G more than any other league.

Also, I respect Siepker's right to cheer for both teams/play both sides, but I have to agree with some of the other posters, should not be hosting Hilton Magic.

Didn't watch. Anyone with Iowa's schedule has no business talking about anything relating to strength of conference.

Oh and Siepker must be applying for a grant at the u of I or something because his over the top comments that he cheers for Iowa are ODD.

Guarantee there is some background to this emphasis.

SEC is overrated but stick with a good conference to make that point.

Why would "Hawkeye" fans be sitting around discussing the SEC. And moreover, why would the kids be defending the SEC?

:skeptical:

Those kids are cyclone fans too which is the worst part. That said props to Iowa Filmmakers they have always been about propping up all that is Iowa (the state).

Yeah but that is subjective. If you win your conference you get a shot to prove it. He is right that there is no justification in a 4 team playoff to have 2 from the same conference unless they are truly indistinguishable. There just isn't enough data.

He is also an actor. Those wern't his kids. Folks need to have a sense of humor. He is an ISU Alum that grew up a Hawkeye fan so now cheers for both. My dad always rooted for both teams except when they played too (an ISU fan then). I am the same way as I grew up a cyclone living in Iowa City. I don't hate Iowa, a lot of good people there. People that get so worked up about others not seeing it the same way as they do take fandom a bit too far.

SEC fans need to be taken down a few notches . . . even if they have been the best conference in recent years . . . I was in Alabama a few years ago and couldn't even get anyone to acknowledge that they wouldn't have been playing in the national championship game unless we beat Oklahoma State . . . on the other hand, when I visited the College Football Hall of Fame last year, one of the guides was from Alabama and he immediately acknowledged our role as soon as he found out I was an Iowa State fan.

I didn't think it was one of his best.

Assuming Iowa makes it to the big 10 title game, their wonderful season will close out with two losses and those that have not payed attention to their schedule will wonder-- what happened?

I received 7-8 remarks from Alabama fans in College Station since I wore an ISU hat.

I would argue that if Florida wins out their regular season and LSU wins out their regular season. Those 2 teams play in the SEC Championship and Florida wins that both LSU and Florida should be in the Playoff.

The SEC East may not be strong this year but it is still significantly stronger than the Big Ten West.

I think Ohio State proved last year that everyone's perceptions might be a little off when it comes to who the best team on the field really is. Unless there are a bunch of 2 loss teams everywhere else, no way should any conference ever get two into this playoff system. Just not a big enough pool. IF LSU were the best team in the country, and believe they have a shot to prove it, they should have done it in the SEC Championship game. If they expand the playoff to 8, then yeah they can get 2 teams in. Until then, if they don't like their tougher schedule, LSU could petition the Big 10 for membership.
