Scheelhasse oc

after watching 14 straight hours of multiple games yesterday, i was very jealous of every other team that had schemes, scrambling to keep plays alive and were fun to watch. this makes me sad.
I can relate......happens to me every Sunday when I watch other football teams having fun after I watch my Bears. But in another scenario, I guess we have to understand that some teams will be at a disadvantage when OL problems exist, whether it be injury, gambling, talent upgrades needed, etc.

I still can’t get over using a timeout on 4th and short only to punt

Have you been watching us the last several years?

I bet Campbell has done a variation of that close to 15 times, and roughly 5 times I can recall last year and TWICE this year. Typically he will send the offense out on 4th and short, run the play clock down, and inevitably waste a TO to punt. We've maybe went for it in one of the above scenarios. The other dozen + times? Punt.

If his aim is to try to coax an offsides you have to at least go for it enough to make the opposition think you might hike it. But when you never go for it all you do is waste a TO. Several times that TO has come back to bite him in the ass later.

It's ******* ridiculous.

I dunno about all this...it's not like we never go for it on 4th down. We do.

I do think trying to coax offsides and gambling a time out for 5 yards and extended drive is a bit wasteful though. At least it is for this offense. Plus I'm not sure how successful freshman QBs are with hard counts/getting opposing teams to jump. Seems like more of a veteran move to me.

Did we now?

There is too much thought clogging our offense. And that is scary.
I've been thinking something similar... I feel like we're too in our own head. Especially playing Iowa we're too scared to turn the ball over and therefore the play calls are too conservative and slow, We get down a score or two and the other team can just sit on the ball, once we get it back we have less and less time to score, it's self fulfilling prophecy.

What happened to going from under center? I’m not counting the QB sneaks when we hurried up against Ohio. Did we run any actual plays from under center against Iowa or Ohio?

My son lives in Savannah and is a passionate Georgia fan, has led me into, well, sort of one, too. I tend to watch GA and other SEC games every week (last Sat. wasn't so inspiring, but...), and this had made my ISU experience all the more miserable the past 2-3 years, if from a entertainment standpoint if nothing else.

Yeah I remember it in the Ohio game and the run got stuffed. But I think we did have a PA where it was a positive play.

Yep same here. So many good athletes out there playing. I only saw one legit speed guy in Jackson. He better be starting Sat.

I was worried about promoting from within for the OC. Nate was taught the same offensive philosophy, over the last several years, from CMC and Manning. I worried that things would be more of the same.

I personally would have liked to hire someone from outside for that position, to bring in fresh ideas.

It is early, we have had a rough time, losing so many players for one reason or another. I have seen a few new looks, but the majority is a lot of the same.

I also throughout the team I have seen some of the same mistakes. Which I worry some of these issues are not being addressed. Catching issues, letting kicks/punts bounce, line issues, some of these are things that are things that should be fixed in High School.

Im going to hold out on calling for anyones job yet, but I do believe it would have been good to bring in someone from outside the program for the OC spot.

Why would anybody take this OC job when they know they will be under Cambell’s thumb and your offense is going to be just as bad as your predecessor’s?
Prolly the same reason we struggle to find WR’s who can both run and catch. Jackson looked great but even he got so excited he tripped after he caught that one ball haha.

We could have hired someone who at their prior job ran trick plays every play or passed 75 times a game but they are running the offense that Campbell wants when they get here.

Matt may not be directly calling the plays, but he's getting the plays he wants called. It's up to him to change.
