It always comes down to OL play. Sure having guys like Purdy and Hall mask some of the issues with a bad line, but in the end, if you can't run and you can't protect the QB you are going to be really inconsistent on offense, which ISU was last year.
Bingo! We won’t be any better unless the OL is quite a bit better than last year.
LOL at everyone here thinking the offense was going to change just because we got a new OC. The truth of the matter is if we had just an average OL last season Manning would still be here.
I get that this is coach speak, but scheme was most definitely part of the problem last year. Not the whole problem, sure. But it absolutely cost us
Eh not necessarily. Any scheme can work. It just comes down to if you have the players for the scheme, and obviously execution. Play calling is also a major factor.
He will, he's already gotten a really strong O line coach.
Regarding Nate S, I do feel he lets Scheelhaase put his imprints all over the offense. If Scheehaase didn't have the freedom to do this I don't think he'd still be here, like why take a power 5 OC job if you can't have some latitude.
I don’t think there are 5 people here who could articulate what the scheme really is. But it was “part of the problem”. That’s why message boards are so great.
Think Nate is going to be great, hope he is with us for awhile. Since he is a elite former QB, hope he is able to get Hunter to read the field, and throw people open quicker. Think DCs in the league are going to continue to bring 5 or 6 until we are able to do that, even if the OL improves; we will gain some holding calls and have the ball thrown at receivers feet unless we are able to get it out in pressure. Think Nate will be able to help with his coaching of QBs.

Coach Rasheed is awesome and our previous on-line coach wasn't.
the thing that always bothers me is he had a great Oline coach. While Manning definitely wasn't a star at OC he was a Top 5 OL coach. I just don't know how the issues with this position group weren't seen by Manning. He sees those kids every day in some capacity.

We were never going to go full spread style. Having said all that if we run more delayed handoffs out of shotgun on the 1-2 yard line my head might explode.

I have no doubt that we will still be a grind it out ball control offense, which pairs nicely with our stingy defense as it keeps us in every game when we're playing well. There is room for innovation and better play calling within that offense, but the main thing will be execution.
Or the same delayed handoff on every first down, especially if they just had a chunk play. Monty and Hall made it work, but you're not always gonna have tackle-breaking savants that become NFL workhorses to rely on. Gotta be more creative in the running game, IMO.
Don't disagree with all those points. And Coach Campbell really stressed consistency of results in his press conference.
But lacking last year was explosive plays. At the P5 level it is hard to be a solid offense or defense without momentum plays.
On offense that doesn't always mean 40 or 50 yard passes or runs. It's more plays of the 15-25 yard distance. Instead of relying on 12 play scoring drives, getting it done in 5-6 plays.
On defense it comes down to pressuring the QB to make bad decisions, getting sacks and creating turnovers.
