So, the inability to complete simple passes, sustain drives and rest the defense has NOTHING to do with how the defense plays. Oh, I see. Thanks for setting me straight.
I hate to say it, but Austen seems a better runner than a thrower. If he does not have a window and a straight shot at his target, his accuracy suffers. Touch throws are not his forte, to say the least. He would probably make a better receiver than a QB.
Wildcat anyone? Right now, anyone that can be modestly accurate with touch throws and short yardage under the coverage stuff would be sufficient. Thisdoes seem not too much to ask. Our OL will not allow our QB's enough time for much down-the-field long stuff anyway.
We are seeing regular failure on bread-and-butter passes which makes everything else difficult. Our short yardage swing or short route touch passing is regularly ineffective. Due to the weakness of the OL protection, it is easy for opponents in standard sets to put pressure on the QB before deeper stuff is possible, then blitzing away and run prevention becomes the logical path for them. We must be able to make defenses PAY for blitzing and targeting our runners, but that takes QB quick release with accuracy, hitting shorter coverage routes with throws that are catchable.
Who can deliver and fulfil this basic QB stuff?

I like the things I'm seeing in this thread. I'm not putting it all on AA, but I do hate the fact that he cant make simple passes. Maybe that is becaue Utah was putting a lot of pressure on him. But arent QBs supposed to deal with pressure? I liked that I saw Capello, but I wish he would have thrown some.....I wonder why he didnt. Oh well, lets just keep putting AA in

I liked what I saw out of Capello too. It is obvious he is way better than AA. I wish the coaches could see it. He faced an awesome Utah defense that had all their starters in the game and he scored right away.
Wait. What? Utah had their 3rd team defense in? Really? I admit I was hammered and didn't really understand what was going on in the game. But I heard these kids next to me yelling that we should take out Arnaud so I yelled with them. They seemed pretty convinced.

I never said Capello played better than AA. The moderators on this site sure like to put words in peoples mouths.

In back to back sentences you made a comment about liking what you saw from Capello and than made a sarcastic comment about putting AA in the game. If you don't think AA should be playing than you think Capello should be. Since Tiller is/was hurt.
WE, as a team, sucked last game. Arnaud didn't suck any worse than the other 22 guys that were playing
Yeah we as a team did suck, but we as a team also need a quaterback that can make simple passes. I'm not saying that Capello or Tiller should go in. That decision is up to CPR.

This. We have no depth on defense. If the offense comes on the field and goes 3 & out 2 times in a row that gives the defense literally no time on the sideline to rest. It sure makes it difficult on the D to put pressure on the qb which we desperately need when the offense can't manage to make a first down or two and give the D a chance to catch their breath.
I don't care if the offense doesn't drive for scores every time they have the ball but it is absolutely critical for them to pick up a first down or two each time they get the ball otherwise we will continue to see what we saw against Utah.... A defense that is so gassed that they can barely put up a fight.
But its a new system for AA! Give him another year in this system and then I think he will finally click....oh wait.
Just because I dont like AA playing does not mean I want Tiller or Capello to play.
He might be the best choice, but he still sucks.

Show me a post where I was a jerk? I don't think calling out college kids is "cool" like some of you do. I also believe in the concept of TEAM play. Austin Arnaud is not the reason we lost by 40 points last game. Yet he is the only guy HerkyKiller attacks. If you are going to make ridiculous posts you better be ready for people to come after you.
The Utah game showed we have few options.
If we do not play our guts out against four Top Twenty teams, we will be beat.
However, if the qb could pass for four TDs without throwing an interception against a fast defense, it would help immensly.
some people have skewed the original argument of this thread, being that AA is not god after all --like many, many people thought after the Tech game.
No AA isnt the reason we lost by 40 points, but on 0 for 7 passing stints and countless 3 and outs, will not help the defense, nor win ball games.
Haha that is true, everyone thinks they are right about everything. (including me sometimes)
