Exactly, the only way this is an unacceptable risk is if you think Fred can let himself get psyched out, a la Mac with WJ, if the situation goes south. I think Fred has too strong of a personality to have that happen.

If it does work out, and the guy does well, it only improves ISU standing, and will probably be the biggest thing Hoiberg does to grow his legend in his first year as head coach. Not to mention you've got a veteran head coach sitting on your bench now to help you deal with this kid.

EXACTLY! The message boards are NOT gospel. First of all, RW's GPA was 3.3 at the completion of first semester. He requested and was granted his release BEFORE the second semester began. He was suspended indefinitely after the MOA incident, pled guilty, paid fine. The Goopher Police Farce are still trying to determine out of some 75 people at a dorm, who removed and returned a laptop within a 12 hour span of time. RW was the only person anyone recognized, 6'9" 242 pounds, it figures. Meanwhile, RW remained suspended (two+ months) until he asked for his release before the second semester began. RW got a raw deal - 'nough said! ISU would be lucky to get this talented young man - THAT'S GOSPEL!!! :yes:
 
No matter where he goes, but especially here because of proxiemity, I am hopeful that his pals stay up north.

Remember, he stayed at home to go to Minnesota. Although "only" 4 hours away, if he comes to ISU, I hope that a change of scenery is able to help his decision making.

exactly no one here knows him so back off...if he does something stupid im sure he knows what will happen and ISU will handle it the right way but untill nothing happens with him on campus dont go crazy...that is all:smile:
 
If Fred brings him in, I'm all for it, because I believe in Fred as a leader. If McD had brought him in, I would have held my breath......I think its all about the leadership.

Welcome to CF, Royce, I hope you join the Cyclones.
 
I hope he enjoys it here and I would like to see him have a chance to be a Cyclone, these risks are a lot easier for Fred to take in year 1.
 
does he have a time line for when he wants to commit to a school? Has he visited Kentucky? Is he visiting Baylor? Drew and Cal are shady as he11 so if he left Ames without committing I doubt we get him.
 
Here is hoping to him being a Cyclone in the future. I would love Royce in the Cardinal and gold

I would be for him coming here. I think people deserve a second chance. But with that I have total confidence in Hoiberg to show him the door if he makes any bad decisions. Win win really. If he stays straight....and plays great..we win. If he messes up he's gone...no biggie. We don't have him now anyway so back to the same position. With the two remaining scholarships I don't think he would really keep us from making another offer. From what they've been saying we may not use them all anyway.

The people that believe that in basketball where you need fewer players, it should not take that long to win. And we sat through four years of horrible basketball, and it would have only gotten worse. Mac got the rep of nobody wanted to play for him here.

He absolutely destroyed the program. Because it doesn't take many players, hopefully we can get this going in a couple of years. But the last two years set this program back 8.

Fred's job will be similar to what Johnny went through building a program. McDermott (or Chewy as the Creighton fans used to call him after Chewbaca) was that bad.

i wasn't really trying to bash Mac, I gave him the benefit of the doubt on most occasions.

That was part of the problem. What Mac did here deserves to be bashed. He was awful for Iowa State basketball. The problem was that Iowa State fans bought the pr and thought he was a nice guy, and Iowa boy.

He was in completely over his head on a Big 12 sideline. The player turnover was absurd. The fact that he attempted to completely micromanage a game, but was afraid to use a timeout is the biggest contradictory move I have ever seen from a coach. Continually losing second half leads the same way.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt buried this program.

I think Fred has a big job in front of him. If he can do it, it won't be far from what Johnny Orr did when he built the program.

Calipari is also a huge risk. Look at his track record. Everywhere he's been he gets his school in trouble with the NCAA. Of course he usually skates out of town right before the crap hits the fan.

whatever dude, mac has nothing to do with my original post. I know I said under mac, but really it is more than just that, people are still questioning it.
