Royce White in Ames today

I think the guy must be able to play sometime THIS year or this wouldn't be happening.

I would bet there are very few teams willing to take a chance on him. Good luck though. If he does come to ISU, the biggest challenge could be to keep him eligible for any length of time

Really? Seriously?

You are wrong, not because this kid might implode again, but because talent is always coveted.

I am sure that your tune would change if he was visiting Iowa today. I am also sure that many of the Cyclones on here would be saying the same thing that you are.

Neither school has been good the past few years. McDermott destroyed the program, and I still don't know if it can come back. The guy couldn't have done a better job of ruining what had been a pretty good program over the previous 20 years, if he had been trying to.

The "man" used his son as a ploy to get the Creighton job, and then ****** on his "best" friend. He is not the great guy that people seem to think.

Iowa had their problems as well. You need good players to compete. This is a good player. The more of these you have the easier it is to come back to a respectable level. Don't kid you moralizing self (a moralizing hawk fan, talk about irony), McCaffery would take White in a heart beat.

I thought so too, or at least I remember that being the story when he first started getting discussed on here. Something about him actually dropping out of school spring semester so he was eligible to play right away.

Its easy for me to say but I would be hoping he picked some one else, if he were visiting Iowa today. To me with all his past transgressions, it hard to believe he has changed much. As I said, if he comes to ISU good luck. BTW, I would hope our current coach would not take a chance on this kid. Some times it works out some times it does not. As I said this kid was in more than his fair share of trouble.

Yeah, just like there's no chance that a thug with a lot of past issues could heavily influence the attitude of team with a first year coach, lots of new players and not much senior leadership.

He could easily turn into Pierre Pierce Jr. Just kidding, no one is that horrible.

Iowa has ONE legitimate Big 10 player on their roster in Gatens, and if he played for a good team he would be one of those chemistry and hustle IQ players. We can debate styles, but Iowa didn't suck last year because they were poorly coached, the lost because they didn't have enough good players to compete.

It's easy to sit there when you have no chance at guys like this. McCaffery would jump at the opportunity to land a great player, even one with baggage.

here is what i find the most interesting, under Mac, ISU fans, on here or other places, always talked about how shady kentucky and baylor are at recruiting, now were going head to head with these two schools. I love it, Fred is doing what good NCAA basketball coaches do, play the grey area.

+1....Just Win Baby.

I believe in doing things the right way, but recruiting him is neither wrong or a grey area. The kid has a bad past, which has nothing to do with Iowa State

Correct. If wants to play for ISU, you give him a zero tolerance policy and a chance to play here. Mess up once and you are gone.

I think if we're in the same conversation as Kentucky and Baylor, it means Freddy knows how to "play ball."

or...he could get it turned around and be our best player

This kid is not high risk. RW would be a no brainer for Fred if he can land him, which I think is better than 50/50.

Under Mac who is and was a small time coach, and man, the people that defended him were the ones that talked about Kentucky and Baylor.

They rationalized that schools couldn't win quickly because that's not doing it the right way as a way to try to justify repeated failures over four years.

The people that believe that in basketball where you need fewer players, it should not take that long to win. And we sat through four years of horrible basketball, and it would have only gotten worse. Mac got the rep of nobody wanted to play for him here.

He absolutely destroyed the program. Because it doesn't take many players, hopefully we can get this going in a couple of years. But the last two years set this program back 8.

Fred's job will be similar to what Johnny went through building a program. McDermott (or Chewy as the Creighton fans used to call him after Chewbaca) was that bad.

No! Some of you must have amnesia

Don't any of you remember the last 6-7 yrs? The group coming in seems like a good mix and good chemistry, someone like this guy could ruin it. If he was too much for shady Tubby that says plenty to me.
